2018 Annual JazzFanz All-Time NBA Draft

We traditionally start this on July 1st of every year but besides the draft thread it’s been pretty quiet around here. Our favorite summer time game is back!!!

You know the deal. Construct the best 10 player team possible. The goal is for your team to beat any and all of the other teams being drafted.

Once a team/user/owner is on the clock (it's their turn), they have up to 12 hours to make their pick. The quicker the better but a 12 hour maximum time period will be allotted.

Each pick must include the player's name, their "resume", and why they are the best ****ing pick possible at that place in the draft for your team -- a kick *** pic or two helps as well usually. Some details may be left out so as not to give away a team's strategy or indirectly allude to who that team/user/owner may be considering with their next pick(s), but you get the point.

Trading can continue to occur pre-draft, during the actual draft, and once it's done. Once the draft is complete, there will be 24 more hours for post-draft trades before the playoff tournament ensues. The winner of each match in the tournament will be determined by the voting of JazzFanz.

There will be a 24 hour trade period before the actual draft for teams to swap picks and what not. After the draft there will be another 24 hours to make trades. Pretty much only really bad trades will even get considered to be vetoed. No lob sided trades, it shouldn’t be a problem but we will have a small trade committee just in case.

Please only serious people who will not take the whole 12 hours and will actually make their pick within 3-5 hours or so. That seems like the perfect amount of time to me.

This is an all-time draft, any past or present NBA players are available to be selected. I will decide the draft order by using an internet list randomizer.

The bracket will be decided when we get the total number of teams. It works pretty well with 16 if we can get enough committed people.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.

How about we add a coach in, so we pick 10 players and a coach - you can pick the coach any time, with your first pick, your last, whatever, but it does take up a pick.

What other drafts could we do to use up the time? All time NBA, Current NBA, maybe All time NBA with no current players? I kind of agree with Wes, that it's too early, unless we can come up with other drafts to do.

I was thinking about proposing a draft of great/good players who didn’t win championships.

I’d like to suggest a change.

In my opinion we should do away with current players. And run old time nba offenses or whatever. This will help people draft more old time players more instead of being afterthoughts

Thoughts?

This is popular this year lol

I'm 50/50 on coaches, don't care either way. Won't sway my votes for or against but I'd be cool with it, and would make the pick selections interesting.

Hate the idea of only retired players.
You can’t do coaches if we are picking current players because most of the legendary coaches coaches before the new age basketball started with stretch 4’s and shooting 20-30 threes a game, plus most probably don’t know the system these coaches run, so a coach like Phil Jackson and their team would have an advantage over guys like a KC Jones because no one knows his style. Leave coaches out.

Who makes up the trade “board”?

If it’s made of people who are involved, you’ll have a high deal of bias in their decision. Like OL might vote against a Cy trade just because he doesn’t like him, or because he doesn’t want the competition.

I'll join in again.

I don't think picking a coach is good idea but if people really want it I guess I'm fine with it.

I like justthetip's suggestion on no trades when you are on the clock. That really shows things down. But then again we aren't in a hurry so who cares if it takes a couple weeks to do the draft.

I definitely think all players should be included. Taking current players out is less interesting.

I don't think trades should be allowed - @spycam1 F'ed everything up last year. I'll vote tho.

I’m in for sure. Don’t think we should remove the current players, but I’m ambivalent about including coaches. Don’t think it matters either way on that one.
