I wonder if the move Rigby hinted at was a trade of Favors for the #1 pick.
I know we keep saying that Favors would be the #1 pick this year, but would you be okay with the trade if it signaled a clear goal to land a top five pick in 2014?
I don't think Cleveland can afford another year of tanking. Neither can many of the teams at the bottom, and of the mediocre-to-good teams, Utah is one of the few with the young talent and flexibility to tank one year and bounce back big the next. Noel and his injury can facilitate this plan, and as a bonus the Jazz get to keep some of that rookie-scale cap flexibility instead of extending Favors.
We could roll into 2014-2015 with this lineup:
Schroeder or MCW or Larkin
Hayward/Burks
Wiggins or Parker/Burks
Kanter/Olynyk or Dieng or Plumlee
Noel/Olynyk or Dieng or Plumlee
Sure, the lineup looks just as good (maybe better) with Favors in it, but is a top 2014 pick as likely?
It's super risky, and it would leave a hole in my heart where Favors now lives, but I think I'd go for it.
