What's new

Are we appreciating the FO enough?

I agree that we're really well set up, but I hope that the '25 pick will go to OKC and be ~18-20 and that we'll be a 6-10 seed this year. I want a real playoff series again.
I’d be fine with that IF they get there by playing Keyonte/Collier, Williams, Hendricks, Lofton, Kessler/Filipowski big minutes in key roles and they get to that point based on the talent they already have on the roster.

No one was talking about real time commentary. If you can't understand what you read, maybe stay away from message boards.
If they were completely transparent in their future plans, that would be a strategic disadvantage when dealing with other teams.

I hope the rookie/sophomores that deserve it get meaningful minutes, for sure, but the only way I think we get there is by playing guys like JC² et.al a fair amount too. They're good players, after all.

You been one of the most vocal guys in repeating that we lack young talent, so color me confused here.
We just added 3 more youngs guys so now we are currently looking at 7 young guys and we should make an effort to get most of them consistent minutes. Maybe we bring over Procida as well to fight for minutes.

Ainge has played this nearly perfectly imo. Couple of missteps/missed opportunities here & there maybe but we are now loaded with young talent, draft picks, & trade chips. He cleaned up the roster & soft tanked for 2 years in order to preserve the patience of the fan base, as well as the reputation of a proud, competitive franchise.

Now, I expect him to fully tank right in time for a pair of potentially historic draft classes (as a whole, not just a single prospect like Wemby), not only securing us that missing star while allowing our young talent to develop, but also helping us to retain the 1st we owe OKC in the process. Ainge couldn't have timed this any better imo.

Thanks to him & the rest of the FO, we are now in a position where we could legitimately force our way into the championship conversation within a few years. Amazing what's been accomplished in such a short period of time, though they did inherit a very good situation.

Potential long-term pieces:
Collier
George
Williams
Sensabaugh
Filipowski
Hendricks

Long-term pieces/trade chips:
Lauri
Sexton
Kessler

Tons of future draft picks

Reasonably clean future cap commitment

Not many teams are in as good of a position as we are moving forward. I'll be legitimately surprised if we aren't perennial contenders in the somewhat near future.

We are extremely lucky to have Ainge & CO calling the shots.

They half way tanked two years in row instead of committing to a tank and we're nowhere near being competitive going into year three of the rebuild.

Traded for Collins which stunted Kessler's development
Traded for THT and played him over Sensabaugh
Never played Taylor Hendricks last year

Huh I disagree. I feel like sips main thing has always been wanting the young talent to get minutes

Cousin I got no idea what you're saying then and I don't think anyone else does either
Do you call people cousin because of the TV series The Bear?

Good post and I agree. I think the key to the future is the 2025 draft. We need to get top 5 (hopefully top 3) and then we are good

But if we proper tanked we might have just ended up with Anthony black and Holland or something. Do you think those guys are way better than Hendricks and Cody Williams? I don't.

Hell if we proper tanked this past season we might have ended up drafting the exact same player since the jazz were saying that they would have taken Cody Williams if they had the 4th pick.

The past 2 years have been such a waste though. The team's going nowhere. Any "winning culture" gained is wasted cos the team is no where near ready to compete.

Had we tanked properly we could be looking at a much better team than we currently have with better rookies and 2nd year players. (granted, we got both Cody and Collier at great bargains relative to most mocks).

We now need to commit fully to developing these kids instead of giving valuable playing time to players who won't be here in 2 years.
Who? Outside of Wemby, which is a very low chance, which players are definitely better than who we drafted that would make a difference and accelerate anything for the team.

This wasted 2 years narrative is really terrible. We have 6 players from the last two drafts that are very promising. We developed a decent starter into an all star player. Sexton turned from a negative asset to a very valuable player. The list could continue. We've done very well the past two years.

The FO has done some of the big things really well since taking charge(like the Mitchell/Gobert trades). They also have done some important things poorly - like failing to formulate and follow a well discernible plan. To me it looks like we are just floating out there... in waiting pattern for something to happen without making decisive moves(after the big ones), which resulted in having to do 2 years of those half-tank maneuvers. They have also done some mind boggling decisions on the margins - the Collins trade, especially since we picked Hendricks in the top 10 of the draft within few days of that trade. On the other hand I have actually liked a lot of the draft picks they've made and I think they have good potential.

At the end of the day, the success or failure of this FO will be determined to a huge degree by the big decisions they make. They set up the franchise well with the big trades of Mitchell and Gobert. We have tons of assets. But assets don't play. Assets need to be turned into tangible prospects/players and we are yet to see the final results of those... and it will be quite some time until we see the final results. Even with what I consider 2 suboptimal years, the Jazz are still set up really well for the future. We just need to hit and hit big on some of those many shots we have(or be successful in our "big game hunting")...
