Timberwolves point guard Jonny Flynn will undergo hip surgery next week and will miss 3-4 months, Yahoo! Sports reports.

A team spokesman could not confirm to the Star Tribune that Flynn would need surgery. Flynn, who started 81 games as a rookie in 2009-10, would miss training camp and possibly the start of the regular season if he has surgery.

Luke Ridnour, who signed a four-year deal with Minnesota last week, had expected to compete for the starting point guard job and would be the obvious candidate to fill in for Flynn. Coming off the bench for the Bucks last season, Ridnour averaged 10.4 points and 4.0 assists while shooting 47.8 percent.

The Timberwolves on Monday continued their busy offseason by trading guard Ramon Sessions to the Cavaliers for guards Delonte West and Sebastian Telfair. Minnesota is expected to waive West.
