I'm getting old and I need one of the OGs to give me a recap/reminder of the origin story for the Best Buy joke we always made. It has relevance and a purpose as it will come up on the podcast we record tonight. I don't want to butcher it but also don't need all the details.

Can anyone help jog my memory here. Tagging @infection

If I remember correctly, it involves the Minivan in his first trip through Salt Lake and I've forgotten is he was a member of the Stars or Jazz at the time. Supposedly the gossip came straight from his mouth or his neighbor or landlord and was relayed by the poster who overheard it in the Best Buy parking lot. .

I don't really remember, so you could be right, but I thought this was way before Georges Niang.

I can't remember the details, but it's definitely waaay before Niang. I think @fishonjazz has a decent shot of remembering.
2013 or before lol. I can't find the origin story through a search. I will likely just rehash the story the way I want lol.

It's explained in post on this thread

for the Best Buy story, Eric Pincus of Hoops(whatever).com joined the site back around the trade deadline in 2005 and told us that he saw Boozer at a Best Buy in SoCal and told Boozer that he needed to be traded to the Lakers and Boozer replied "we're trying". Since then, Best Buy has become an overused catch phrase on jazzfanz.
There you have it

Perfect. Thank you all!

I can’t vouch for the 2005 story since from February 2004 to February 2006 I was on my JFC sabbatical for my LDS mission, though still lurked occasionally. Really wish the board hadn’t crashed so I could go see if I ever posted over that span. Anyway, I remembered a second story in spring/summer of 2006 where someone else had seen Memo buying a TV at Best Buy. If I’m recalling, I think it was an amalgam of 2-3 legitimate (or at least purported to be legitimate and not meme stories) that all had a Best Buy connection that then turned it into the running meme.

There have been some good JazzFanzisms over the years but none has stood the test of time like Best Buy. Some notables:

“What’s a skillet?”
Pillow fort.
19-13.

I wondered if I had posted in that thread. I had.
