Cody Williams Hype and Appreciation Thread

A lot depends on how Cody develops physically, whether he can become more explosive and whether he can beat defenders in isolation. I see some parallels to Brandon Miller from a couple years ago (Remember, Cody is 2 years younger than Miller, so it would be Miller coming out of HS), but Cody isn't as bouncy as Miller. Cody also likes to dive to the rim more than pull up.

If you like old-school comps, Cody could be like a less explosive Josh Howard or maybe like Walt Williams.

Biggest difference between lamb and Cody is that lamb got to the middy more and Cody is more of rim attacker. But Cody is showing more willingness to get to the middy in SL
 
His stature and the way he moves reminds of a young Jeremy Evans. Not skill level by any stretch but just the way he glides up and down the court and body style.

Yeah Hill is obviously a stretch but Williams seems like he has a lot of development left in him.

Let's compare freshman year stats:

PER 40 Grant had: 18.1 PTS, 8.3 REB, 3.6 AST, 2.3 STL, 1.4 BLK, 3.3 TOV on 51% FG, 0% 3PT and 60% FT

PER 40 Cody had: 16.8 PTS, 4.2 REB, 2.2 AST, .9 STL, .9 BLK, 2.8 TOV on 55% FG, 41% 3PT and 71% FT


Cody has a 35.5" vertical

Grant probably had close to a 40" vertical
 
i am waiting for the day when they ask his brother what it's like to be related to him. really tired of them asking about his bro.

Who does only things that he knows he could do well and under control, and because of that often disappearing for long stretches. But he is also someone who will be steadily working on expanding his bag and reads on the floor and who will be steadily improving year after year.

Other players like that are Kawhi and Jokic.

I actually really like the young Lauri comp.. he was basically a very good tall 3 point shooter who was kinda passive, not much off the bounce game or fire to take over games.

I wonder if Lauri could take him under his wings and mentor him somewhat that would be awesome.

I wonder if Ainge is thinking about this when he’s deciding not to trade Lauri eventually.
 
Cody had a beautiful spin move from near the 3 point line that ended with a layup at the rim today.

Unfortunately we won’t see it in highlights cos it was after the buzzer.

But that move showed great promise imo.
