Cody Williams poll

Where are you at on Cody Williams?

  • Based on how bad his rookie year was, we can already declare him a bust

  • Still too early to tell, but I think there's an NBA player in there

  • I think he's going to be good

It's time for a poll. Let's get people on-the-record before there are reports that he's gained 15 lbs of muscle and shows some kind of promise in Summer League game.

I'm out but he has no value and there is no reason to trade him. If Brooklyn offered one of their picks in the 20s for him I'd take it with no problem. At this point though the only thing we have to lose is a little PT for other players we may like more. He helps the tank... so the experiment will continue and I think it is the right move. If there is an nba player in there I thinks its like an 8th/9th man who is okay. Taurean Prince if you will.

I'm concerned with his casual demeanor and poor shooting. However, he moves well enough defensively and moves the ball well enough offensively that I think he can be rotational if he improves his body and makes enough shots.

My take is that when Cody actually got low and drove at or near full speed, he looked good. The problem is he just very rarely did that.

i've had thoughts that when a player is trying new stuff and learning, they don't always go at full speed, so i'm not as worried about his 'motor' as some people are. then again, it's hard to differentiate between careful personal playing analysis and lackadaisical playing so who knows.

I'm okay with offensive passivity and can get with this a little bit but... 3.8 rebounds per 36 minutes was third worst on the team only behind Sexton and Patty Mills. Stock numbers not anemic but not good either for the type of player he is projecting as.

Even if the shot doesn't come around he needs to beat these activity numbers if he wants to beat the Tony Snell allegations.

There's a part of me that thinks Cody is just a bit too in his head at the moment. Not in a "psyching himself out" way but in a "thinking about everything instead of letting the game come to him" way. There's a chance he never moves past that (or a chance that he just doesn't have a motor / doesn't care) but I still have some hope that he gets better in that regard. I think I saw enough defense and nice drives to think there might be a rotational player in there. We'll see.

After seeing the recent workout videos........ Bust for sure. Those videos were disgusting.

Maybe the biggest red flag is that he would be lucky to be Tony Snell.
