False positive COVID-19 test or false negative COVID-19 test in the NFL?

So a day or two ago a jets player tested positive for COVID. Then this morning I here he tested negative so the nfl is calling the original test a false positive. Isn’t it just as possible the second test could’ve been a false negative?

someone please clarify this for me. Is it possible to have a false negative reading or does it only work the other way. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Couldn't it also be the case that he tested positive because he had covid and then he tested negative because he didn't have covid?
