Curious to see how the fanbase is feeling about the upcoming season. One thing that scared me during the preseason game was seeing vets like Olynyk getting burn while our young guys rode the pine.

As it stands right now I think we are a 25-30 win team. I think the front office will do the right thing and strip away some of the talent to get us in the 20-25 win range.

To get less than 20 wins you flat out have to be so bad you become a laughing stock, a literal punch line that burns any interest from casuals for years to come. You might do that for a generational player. Probably not for an extra 3% chance at getting a generational player.

That said, I think people are reading way too much into a preseason game where we played a mediocre team on the second night of a back to back. Even a 20 win season means you win one out of every 4 games.

Jazz win between 20-25.

This is really not true at all. Like OKC has no fans now. Like SA lost its fans the year they tanked for Duncan. Warriors fans still so miffed they tanked a year or two ago.

Playing hard will win games... especially at altitude. This team will play hard. The smart folks were on to us being better than the other tank teams pretty early. Analytical models on it as well. You also state you have to be embarrassingly bad to win less than 20 then peg us as a 20-25 win team... like 15 wins is catastrophic but 22 is bearable.

OKC won 24 games last year. Look at who played minutes for them. We have a lot of nba players on this roster and the projects don't have a path to playing time. That was apparent before two preseason games.

If you can increase your chances by 35% (from 20% to 27%) to land #1 or #2... or you can win an extra 5 games for culture. Give me the increase we get the next big thing. Zero titles in 50 years... I'm cool with a 27% chance we get a guy that can lead us there and burning up one season to do it.

With this roster and a business-as-usual approach? 31-35.
I also had a thought... teams that play hard will win 20 games on accident. We should play hard... and we play half our games at altitude and have enjoyed a huge hc advantage over the years. Without front office intervention we will find ourselves 7th.

I have an idea:

Make a push about expanding interest across the Intermountain west. Play a quarter of our home games in St. George, and another quarter in Boise. Get rid of the elevation advantage. Also give the team bad accommodations getting to and from, like on Major League.

Maybe the reason we made the ugly *** jerseys was to demoralize our team... like making them wear the hot dog on a stick uniform. Also really fire up our opponents... "we can't lose to these guys... I mean they ain't even got real jerseys"

Do they still do the Hot Dog on a Stick uniforms? And has there ever been a Hot Dog on a Stick that isn't in a mall? Same with Sbarro. Wife and I took the kids to the Philadelphian in Sandy last week and there was a Hot Dog on a Stick sack in the garbage. I had wondered who walked into a good joint with that food.

I've never actually eaten at HDOAS, though.

They are still out there. In the mall in Roseville, CA anyway. My wife likes their cheese on a stick. I find it disgusting. I should also mention her stomach doesn't love dairy... so she will eat it knowing what is coming. Its more like a once a year thing for her... but she's always like "that looks good" and I'm like "you sure about that?"

Nobody outside of OKC cares about the Thunder once summer league is done. They aren't talked about nationally at all. Even if SGA is mentioned it is as a target for other teams. The aren't even cared about enough to be a meme.

Comparison to SA is dumb too because the rules were different back then if the difference between 4 an 1 were 25% then yes, get rid of useful pieces. For 3%? You plan on keeping Beasley an Vando and see how it goes. Also if you are reaching back like 30 years ago for your prime example it isn't as good as you think it is. The Warriors tanked to get Barnes who was hardly the linchpin in all of their championships.

I know this, the people screaming the loudest to go straight G league aren't buying season tickets or watching many games this year. It is important to play a little actual basketball.

That being said I am all in on being bottom 4 this year and bottom 8 next year, I am just not going to insist we only win 12 games.

We have a ton of back to backs before February...I'm hoping we will sit Mike the second night of every single one, and then trade him at the deadline. That would really help us lose more games. I'm also grateful that the brutal part of the schedule is early on. Hopefully by the time it gets easy we will have unloaded some of our vets.

I think that by the end of the season, the Jazz will be able to pull it under 25 wins. They'll shut down Conley if they're out of the playoff/play-in chase, imo.

The Jazz have young players to "develop," and those young players are too offensively deficient to win games.
