Just for funsies, if the Thunder agreed to remove the restrictions on our pick this year in exchange for a player, who would you be willing to give up to own our pick free and clear? Motivation for the thunder: they get a player where they otherwise would likely not b/c we would continue to tank. Motivation for the Jazz: Play our best players for the rest of the year, start building chemistry with our new All-Star JJJJ (Jazzman Jaren Jackson Jr) and maybe end up with a pick in the teens.

In essence, the question here is do we value any of those higher than a pick around 9-12 in this draft. I think I value the pick higher than every single one of those, except for Ace.

I don't think that's quite right. I think the question is, "Do we value the ability to get more data on Key, Lauri, JJJ this year over one of those guys."

Nah, 29 games is not valuable enough sample, especially on the back end of the season when half the teams are tanking.

29 games of data may not be that much, but it gives Hardy time to test fits and figure out rotations and the guys get to build on-court chemistry. Its not worth nothing, and would give us a better starting point to next season when we want to come out of the gate hot.

I actually think it's worth virtually nothing. Every team has personnel changes between seasons and they utilize training camp and preseason to acclimate. Some teams have major personnel changes and they can figure it out.

I actually think our rotation is going to look drastically different next year because we are going to try and build a team with a goal of winning. Brice, Flip, Collier, Cody, etc are not going to have anything guaranteed. So any extra reps this season are kind of moot because the rotation is going to be so different next season.

Let me say this, too. Not only is the protection a blessing because it puts a gun to our head to do the smart thing, it was probably designed in part to do that.

I hear you. I think JJJ getting reps on playing PnR with Key, running screen plays with Lauri and also running our various actions are all things that create continuity.

But you are probably right in that personnel changes will mess a lot of things up anyways.
