Some of you people are complete idiots.

KOC can do nothing right in some of your minds!

If he makes a trade you complain. If he stands pat you complain.

You need to look at things from a business sense. The Jazz were paying a ton of money to barely compete for the #8 seed! That's not good business folks! Especially when you consider next year being a lockout year and a new (hard) CBA.
Meanwhile, Deron was becoming more and more of a distraction. That's not good business folks!
Deron wasn't coming back. Today on 1320, the guys who spend the most time around these players all admitted that they never got the feeling that Deron was going to stay here for the long haul. They always suspected that he wanted to win a championship, have more attention, and be in a big (warm) city.

Just watch, Deron's not going to stay in NJ. They're the biggest losers out of this whole deal. They gave away a lot of nice pieces for a 1-2 year rental of Deron. Afterwords, he's going to Lebron them and head off to his hometown and enjoy some of Cuban's bigtime money.

The Jazz sent Deron to a nonfactor in the EC, got rid of the cancer, got many good pieces in return, and can now focus on the future.

For some of you, the Jazz can never win! You complain about Jerry, then once he leaves you complain. You complain about Boozer, now complain about Millsap and Al. You complained about how KOC didn't trade Boozer to get real value. Now you complain that the Jazz didn't wait to see how Derongate would have ended. You complain about KOC standing pat and not being progressive, and now complain when he's progressive. You complain and complain

The Jazz made the right decision both for the direction of the team and for the business. The loss of Deron and the rebuilding were inevitable. Now we have a head start. Stop complaining.
 
I have been consistent on the point that trading a franchise player when you don't have to is almost always the wrong decision. I stand by that decision, especially in light of now having no identity whatsoever.
 
You act like Jazzfans.com is made up of one collective mind set. No. There are hundreds of posters here. Many are very vocal about their opinions. Additionally, these opinions vary wildly. when something happens one side doesn't like they speak up quickly and clearly. When the opposite happens, the other side speaks up quickly and clearly.

This isn't hypocrisy. This is a message board made up of posters with a range of viewpoints. There will always be complaining no matter how well the team plays, whom they draft, or whom they trade or don't trade. Get over it.

With superstars bending over teams and entire cities every year, we finally made a horrible situation into a good one. We avoided losing Deron for nothing. Avoided the speculation. Avoided the negative cloud that would have come over our entire franchise. Shaved off a few dollars, gained a fine PG, got the #1 guy we wanted in the draft, and now have 2 more draft picks to work with.

Almost always the wrong decision? This isn't the NBA of the 1960's, 70's or 80's. How did the sit and cross your fingers routine work out for Cleveland?

But isn't that the catch?

The Jazz HAD to trade him.

The only other choices would have been:

1. Allow Deron to dictate where to be traded, when, and for who.
2. Let Deron leave for nothing.

Considering those 2 scenarios, this one was BY FAR the best.

It'd look a lot better to Cleveland and Toronto right now had they traded those guys instead of letting them walk for nothing. Denver looks great for what they did considering Melo put them in a hole, and the Jazz followed suit. Hindsight is obviously 20/20 but I think engaged fans generally have a good sense of what's going to happen with star players, and people have been talking about Deron opting out and walking after his contract is over for a while now.

Half of the battle in the NBA, especially nowadays, is just hanging onto assets. Letting an asset like Deron Williams walk is SUCH an epic loss. The Jazz got 2 good draft picks out of it, a reasonably decent point and a player with a lot of upside. Looks much better when compared to nothing.

Besides, what was Deron doing this season that was helping us win? 4-14 over the past however long looks bad no matter who is running the show, and we haven't had that bad of a stretch in a really long time.

And can you imagine what would've happened had they traded him? They held strong and lost, oh well.
