What's new

More Gobert Love = Top Rim Protector...as if we didn't know this

Gobert has also been hired to be Chuck Norris' bodyguard.

Rudy is special. It's amazing how far he's come in just a few short weeks. Just needed the playing time, and as it increases, so does the conversation for him as defensive player of the year. That to me is insane. That a Jazz player is even up for that debate. One piece of the puzzle. Hopefully Hayward, Favors and Exum are the other pieces. If the Jazz somehow luch out and get into the top 3 in the lottery. . . this is a team that might actually be able to compete.

he should get Most Improved

Jimmy Butler isn't going to get most improved AND DPOY. Whatever he doesn't get, Gobert should be in line for. . .
Ya.
I think butler gets mip.

What would Kanter's averages be at, say, 36 MPG? They note in the article he is doing this with just 21 MPG.

Has Butler's defense been that good this year? I know he's a good defender, but the Bulls are a train wreck right now and his play has fallen off from the high level it started at. Gobert impacts every game and keeps getting better and better and better. I have a hard time thinking that anybody is making the defensive impact that Gobert is. Without him, the whole team's defense is putrid.

Butler started the year on fire, completely stymied Hayward the first time they met. He has fallen off a lot lately, probably because he is wearing down being both the top offensive AND defensive option. Had he continued as he started then he could easily have been DPOY, now I think that Gobert HAS to be in that conversation, especially if we dispense with the stupidity of Kanter starting. DPOY is a far more prestigious award than most improved, which is kind of a backhanded compliment. . .

Rudy will be in the conversation for DPOY, but there is no way he wins it this year. DPOY, just like the MVP goes to a team that is winning and we will not win enough. There isn't an obvious candidate right now though, so you never know. My guess is it will go to either Deandre Jordan or Serge Ibaka. If they picked a non-winner DPOY it'd probably be Anthony Davis

Next year however... he'll be our starter and if we actually go and try and add real players instead of D League fill ins I think we will win enough for Rudy to win the award.

And every year after that.

For Gobert to get DPOY this year, he'd have to be starting the rest of the season. No way that award can go to a bench player. It might already be too late since he's spent the first half of the season coming off the bench.

But there's no question as to who it will go to next season. Damn, it's crazy to think that we can actually say that.

I hope that as the season progresses, he continues to stand out like he has. It would really raise the Jazz profile to have the league and the press recognize Rudy for the impact that he's having on the team. Just imagine him recruiting free agents fresh off of a surprising win of DPOY. Having a guy like that should help the Jazz attract quality players and coaches. The Jazz are really lucky to have their young trio of "star" players have looked pretty good together in Quin Snyder's first year. Depending on how the support them, this team should only be getting better moving forward. The bench is awful and player development has been awesome this year. I expect that to continue.
