My Current offseason pipe dream

Ok know it is slow but i have been thinking about what the Jazz can do right now to make a push to win. Looking at what we have now and the needs still on the board I have come up with my current realistic pipe dream. I know the ultimate pipe dream would by to have miamis big 3 added to Deron and Jefferson but since that will never happen these are my random thoughts

A look at the current team

Williams, Price, Empty spot
Miles, Bell, Could also be a spot (yes i would start Miles over Bell)
Ak, Hayward, Probably Evens
Millsap, Empty Spot
Jefferson, Okur (out for a while), Elson

Now that Jazz have to carry 13 players but 14 could be realistic. that is at least 3 players added to the roster. I am not satisfied with Jeffers, Gaines and Evans. Also if Fes signs the 1 year tendered offer that would be 14.

Option #1 we all know that the Jazz have worked out Earl Watson i think he is the perfect back up to Williams. With that said we would have to move Price and i say lets get a second rounder for him if we can. I think he is worth that. The moving of price would be for a later deal.

Option #2 the scrubs i dont think Jeffers or gaines will be any better then they are and there for not worth have them on the roster i would rather give their spots to long shots like Mathews some one that could come in work their butts off and possibly make the roster better. The 2 names that i have are Kyle Weaver (if he will come in for a 1 mil or less) and Jon Sheyer. Weaver is veristale and a good rebounder very similar game to Mathews and Sheyer played some point at duke in a very strucctured offense. I think he is a better gamble at 3 point and 2 gaurd and i think he could be a Hornecek type of player.

Option #3 would be Greg miller opening his check book and the reason Price would need to be moved. We go after big time Eric Dampier. Was looking to see if he signed with any one but couldnt find any thing. We dont have a lot to offer but a little over the min from what i can gather. We would give him a shot at going deep inot the play offs maybe even a run for the championship. He would get playing time and i think he is the perfect fit.

Williams, Watson, Sheyer
Miles, Bell, Weaver
AK, Hayward, Evans
Jefferson, Millsap
Dampier, Okur, Elson Maybe Fes but he wouldnt be needed now maybe get a sign and trade with a team for a second rounder

I think that team has a lot of depth they match up with the best teams and they could be very scary when Okur is back and being the gunner on the second team. I would probably mean Millsap will leave when his contract come up but for the next 2 years the Jazz are very very scary.

Ronnie Price isn't worth a 2nd round pick. No team would ever do that. Scrubs in the NBDL can provide the same thing Price does for less money or the same.
Earl Watson would be great but we don't have to move Price. He is a good 3rd string PG. Gaines contract is not guaranteed so we can just release him to make room for Watson.

Jon Sheyer: He is too slow to play the PG position. He was actually was called to slow to guard 2 guards. We need to get away from these types of players.

Weaver would be a great pick up. But its unlikely seeing there is 10 teams interested.

Thompson would be a good pick up hopefully he does good in camp and takes Jeffers place (Jeffers is also not guaranteed).

Dampier would be great for us but its not going to happen. He can go to better teams or the same and better cities for the same amount of money.

D-Will - Price
Bell - Miles - Hayward
AK - Miles - Hayward - Evans
Millsap - Elson - Evans
Jefferson - OKur

These are the players that will not change before the season starts.

Hopefully we sign Fesenko to a 3 year deal with 4th being a team option for 2 Million per year.

We sign Earl Watson and release Gaines
We sign Thompson and release Jeffers (Hopefully we can get Weaver instead).

That is more realistic for the Jazz. Not a whole lot will change. Only guys at the end of the bench.

Hopefully Fes will be back. The SL Trib Blog is quoting KoC as now having "issues" with Fes; beginning to sound a bit omenous. I'm sure glad we got Elson signed.
Watson would be great. I don't think he'll find a starting job at PG in the NBA. He'd be a good fit here as a b/u.
Thompson is raw, but sounds like he's already BB smart and motivated. Could contribute if all true.
If Fes walks, we may bring in another big for insurance.

Thompson's only question mark is his athleticism, he's a good guy, his game is quite polished and well-rounded, and he cares about defense, winning, and the little things that come along with it. The only question is athleticism and I'm shocked he didn't get drafted. If Matthews can make it in this league, there is no reason that Thompson can't from what we know at this stage.

But at the end of the day, some guys get their shot, capitalize, and make it, and some guys don't. We'll see which category Thompson falls under, though clearly he seems to be in the latter camp at this stage and not the former.

This is a pretty good summary of Thompson. I am interested who he can matchup up with defensively. Athletically he is below average and he is a little undersized at 3.

In comparison with Matthews, Wesley started for 4 years in the Big East. Thompson started for Rider. Matthews is a good NBA athlete. the other is considered below average. Who do you think is going to be more NBA ready?

Matthews is not athletic. If he was, he would've been drafted. A guy that gets stuffed at the rim BY the rim on an uncontested dunk is not athletic.

Matthews is a heady, gritty player that does the right things on the court and is only scraping by on size and athleticism. He's undersized (listing him as 6' 5" is generous) and he's not especially athletic. But again, he does the right things. He doesn't leave anybody else on the court doing more than they have to by being an above-average defender and being a decent 3-pt shooter. You can't have too many players like that.
