The Biden Administration and All Things Politics

It could be made easier with a little effort applied in the right places. Not sure what you don't understand about that. You're like "Oh gosh, why doesn't the internet just behave itself?"

There are bad actors on your forum making your forum worse for everyone else. If you lack the ability to identify who the worst of the worst amongst them are, the ones who NEVER engage in civil or productive dialogue then I don't know what to say.

The example I gave was from Linus Tech Tips where they discussed growing toxicity on their forum, a forum about tech. They had been essentially taking your approach of hands off, treat everyone equally as if everyone is there with good and honorable intentions. It wasn't working so they identified the primary sources of the toxicity. They found that there were common actors in most of the conflict, so they shadow banned them. Their forum became significantly less toxic. Boom, done.
That’s fair criticism. I’ll look into the mass ignore / shadow ban options. I don’t think the software does that natively but that could be an action to leverage. Thanks.

Really these guys are just used to the 8 or so of them bashing on anything Trump without push back. A few conservatives came along to share facts and they can't handle it.

I really wish I could find a clip of the discussion I have been referring to. It was a philosophical discussion about running an internet forum and where we are at this point in history. It was a deeper discussion than I have been able to convey. It really hit me hard and having been here for about a year now I immediately thought about the issues that exist here. They (Linus and Luke) believe strongly in free speech, in fair treatment, and they have no interest in onerous moderation of their forum. They eventually decided that their forum either needed to be eliminated (they are losing money on it) or that the toxicity needed to be mitigated. They tried mitigation by identifying the most common denominators of toxicity (I think I'm using the terms improperly, but I think it makes sense) . Then they shadow banned those posters. Not surprisingly, conditions improved.

I would never advocate for censorship based on political opinion. That is not necessary here. The people causing the most problems do usually share a common political identity, but those people may not be real humans, or Americans (but pretending to be), or be people NOT engaging in honest political dialogue. And there my be posters with a different political ideology who also fit the criteria of a bad actor.

I'm not a conspiracy type person, but Russia does employ literally millions of trolls to infest American forums. If that is not what some of the posters here are then I'm confused by their enthusiasm for pro-Russian talking points. Why give Russian agents equal air time on your website? They don't care about you, or about the U.S., or about our freedom. They are just making this, overall very awesome website, worse than it should be.

Russian agent here trying to convince far left lunatics that giving away your first and second amendment rights is a huge mistake.
Russia also wants me to convince them that Nuclear war is very bad.
Russian propaganda insists that elections are good and assassinations are bad.
Haha! I could go on.

Russia has already convinced you that Democrats are taking away your 1st and 2nd amendment Rights (just like Obama took our guns) and that Democrats want nuclear war.

Now you are trying to convince other Americans of that as well. Russia wants trump to win.

From their posting patterns, as in one of them dominating the forum for a while, then he stops and a different one picks it up with the exact same rhetoric and word choices, we have surmised that it is at most maybe 2 individuals with multiple accounts. Tough to prove of course. There have been slip-ups, where one will respond in an ongoing conversation in place of the one that was actually involved in the conversation, things like that. This alone should be enough to ban outright, but again, tough to prove since there is no way to show it actually happening and with VPNs so common there is no IP info to go by. But yeah, likely it is 1 or 2 dudes maintaining the whole thing.

Sorry if this has already been posted...

It’s not unusual for the Federal Emergency Management Agency to have to respond to rumors surrounding any given natural disaster. But US officials are concerned about the scale and scope of the conspiracy theories and the threat they pose to hurricane victims and the government employees responding to the disaster.

This week, President Joe Biden requested a memorandum from his team on the federal government’s digital response, including how officials were remediating misinformation, a senior administration official told CNN. While addressing preparations for Hurricane Milton, Biden called out “reckless, irresponsible and relentless promotion of disinformation and outright lies that are disturbing people” and “undermining confidence in the incredible rescue and recovery work that has already been taken.” He specifically called out Trump for his role in spreading misinformation.

“The contours of this misinformation are unlike anything we’ve seen before,” a senior administration official told CNN.

With Hurricane Milton barreling toward Florida, concerns among administration officials have only been exacerbated, and new tactics to share information have been deployed to reach different corners of the internet, like a newly launched White House Reddit page.

Senior US officials have also instructed public affairs teams at federal agencies to ramp up social media posts from government accounts with photos that illustrate how federal workers are clearing debris and dispensing aid, the first US official familiar with the effort said.

“We have a massive misinformation problem, and this is something that actively harms the ability of responders to do their job,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told CNN’s John Berman on Wednesday. “I think a lot of it’s driven by politics. Some of it’s just the internet doing what it seems to do lately and amplify the loudest or strangest thing that is being said.”

Nope- its the same tired cycle with you guys. Accusations and calling people trolls when they don't agree with you. I have no alt accounts here and you all are spreading misinformation and silly conspiracy theories. I'd be willing to wager anything you want that I have no alt accounts here.
