Good trade for both sides.

Houston likely going to draft Banchero, which will create a further log-jam at the quasi-wing position that Martin plays for Houston. Houston has no PG's on the roster other than the guys they are trying to shoehorn into the position through trial/error. Butler should have significant fan interest due to the Texas/Baylor ties.

Martin has reportedly asked Houston to be dealt.

Martin is one of the best off-ball athletes in the NBA. Doesnt have great length or size, but plays big. If Utah wants to become a more athletic team, this is the way they have to start doing it.

*and yes, I agree Jared Butler is more talented/has more upside, but it's never going to be realized on a team that stars Donovan Mitchell*

Add on to the fact that even if Butler has a breakout year this year, he will be a RFA and will be on the books to get paid, which Utah wouldn't be able to afford. KJ has an additional year on his contract at the minimum value.

I think we will be able to pay him... since he won't get any playing time. I agree it may not happen here because he ain't getting any run. I wait until after he scores 25 a game in summer league.

I like KJ. Whenever you watch a Houston game he does something and I'm like "who was that?". Its always Martin.

He'd at least be fun.

The thing is once we go to Mitchell at the unquestioned PG as a mega-usage star, we arent ever going back.

I guess the best case would be Butler has a mini-breakout year and we still get him for pretty cheap, then he really breaks out on a MLE type deal then we can really get value for him, but the clock is kind of ticking on proving the Jazz can make Gobert/Mitchell work, and they got to get the athleticism/defensive potential around them to do that.

You don't think Quin being gone will get him more playing time this season?

After summer league when he crushes it we move him for KJ and some stuff.

JB scores 20+ per game for Houston and everyone here can complain. Its a win all around.

I'm not sure. If Mike is traded then maybe. Depends on the new coach. Donovan loves Trent. I ain't saying that is why he has and will play over JB but Donovan loves Trent.

It's going to be super disappointing if he still can't get off the bench under a new coach.

I agree... He's not a great fit off the bench if we just stick with the "let JC cook" bench offense. I'd still have him out there but coaches are so consumed with winning now that its tough to invest 10 minutes a night to let JB play point.

Always liked Martin kid. Thought he was massively underrated in Hou playing behind Tate. But trading Butler is kinda a reach. Also not sure why Hou would want him with a loaded backcourt.

We should be going after Martin but definitely not trading Butler in the process.

They are loaded backcourt of 6'5 combo guards. Kevin Porter Jr is the most point guardy of them, but the guy is considered a headcase and isnt consistent. Butler would give them something they don't really have.
