What would a Don trade look like?

With the rumblings of a potential tank incoming, if we do decide to move Don, what do you think we'll get in return?

I'd take RJ Barrett plus Noel/Burks for salary matching purposes + as much draft capital as humanely possible.

The Knicks are sitting on 4 1st round picks in 2023, right?

I think that's the target, plus whatever garbage salaries you have to take back in return.

They own all of their own future 1sts plus the Mavericks, Wizards, and Pistons 2023 1sts but they likely won't convey immediately because they're heavily protected.

Mavericks 1st: Protected 1-10 in 23/24/25 if it hasn't conveyed by 2025 it becomes a 2025 2nd
Pistons 1st: Protected 1-18 in 23/24, 1-13 in 25, 1-11 in 26, 1-9 in 27 and if it hasn't conveyed by 2027 it becomes a 2027 2nd
Wizards 1st: Protected 1-14 in 23, 1-12 in 24, 1-10 in 25, and 1-8 in 26 and if it hasn't conveyed by 2026 it becomes 2 2026 2nd round picks

I’ve been thinking about something like this for a while too. Barrett wouldn’t be that much of a step back from Don if at all. He’s bigger, younger and a better defender. Everything else (players, picks) would be gravy to me.

I would honestly not be surprised if the workings are already in motion to ship Donovan to New York. That's why NY made the moves they did for all the draft picks, that's why the team didn't trade Rudy . . .Donovan has quietly made his request to be moved and the pieces are being shuffled to make it happen.

jazz aren't tanking.

donovan isn't going anywhere (though i wish that weren't true). but it is fun to speculate. i'd like to see him fetch a good starter and multiple firsts.

I could see the Knicks moving off of him now too because he's due for an extension. Or he could potentially be the primary piece in a trade package next offseason because matching salaries wouldn't be as hard if they pay him.

If they max out Jalen Brunson it makes things more difficult though.

I just got excited. Thanks.

Adding two extremely protected 1st round picks that literally might not ever materialize was their grand plan to land Don?

From the Miami leaker:
Update*** Ok, got a text confirming the submission for trade to Utah for Donovan is legit. although it wasn't submitted right now but yesterday. Also it was a fall back and it includes, Houston & OKC apparently to make it work. The hold up is on Utah, If they accept, and Brooklyn plays the long game, they are pulling the trigger**** right now. That's on the board!!!

Seems the asterisks refer to some things.

For a NY Trade I'd want:
Fournier
Barrett
Quickley
Toppin
Three unprotected 1sts ('23; '25; '27) and pick swaps in 24 and 26.

Plus they'd have to take Gay back with Mitchell.

(BTW - There is no way NY should do any of this if they are about to sign Brunson).

My proposed trade is Mitchell for Barrett plus 4 unprotected 1st round draft pics. I’m not a cap expert so maybe that does not work. Your trade proposal is also acceptable to me.
