Popovich praises the Jazz

I realize this is difficult for you to comprehend, but while the Jazz trading Kanter was a good thing, the return we got was very underwhelming. It is also possible to say you don't like some of DL's deals while still being a fan, or even still liking DL. Shocking, I know, but I promise you it's true.

Unless that is the best deal available.

It's been repeated countless times, but if they knew they were going to trade him, and that he wanted to be traded, then they should have traded him before he adked for a trade. It's just common sense.

DL has been very public about how surprised he was at Gobert's improvement this year. He said he mentioned this to Greg also (who probably asked him the same question you're asking now about why DL didn't trade / deal with him earlier).

I don't think Kanter asking for the trade has anything to do with the low level of interest for him around the league. He is a back up big asking for MAX deal next year. Unless you're confident he can be your starting big next year you won't give up much for him.

Do you mean that Jazz should have traded Kanter before his trade request became public? Maybe the Jazz were still undecided on trading him and, despite DL's comments, Kanter making his wishes public was the tipping point in the Jazz deciding to trade him.

Lol by all accounts Pop is awesome and answers questions thoughtfully off camera. This was hilarious though

David Locke: Have you come back to playing with two bigs more often than maybe you were at this point a year ago? Is that evolving, or is that just happening?

Pop: I remember you. You always try to ask basketball questions, and you have no clue what you’re talking about. But you always try to find a trend or something. I have no idea. Sometimes we play two bigs, sometimes we play small. It depends who we’re playing. But there’s no intent to go in one direction or the other. Is that OK?

This is gold hahaha

He was asking for trades for years, but until the Jazz were certain about Gobert, it would have been dumb to trade him. If we didn't have Gobert, our frontcourt would be kanter and favors. If you are saying they should have traded him earlier this season, I can buy that, but I doubt the return would have been any higher than what we got at the deadline. His trade value was probably highest the moment before he injured his shoulder a couple years ago.

It's just as foolish to ignore their mistakes. They're not perfect, nor should we expect them to be, but if we can't point out their faults without getting posts like yours, then something is wrong here.

If you can't allow for that small jest then somethin is indeed wrong.

Yes, earlier this season, once it was apparent Rudy was really good. And yes, I do believe his return would have been higher then. All I'm asking is that DL be more proactive rather than reactionary. I just don't think we got **** in return for him...I'm sorry, but Kanter is worth more than a crappy first, a crappy second, a DL player and some guy who might never play here, and probably won't be anything more than a 4th big...so yeah, I'm frustrated at the return but happy we traded him. Make sense?

I'm one of the biggest, if not the biggest, DL supporter. But you are right here. With the news being leaked that the Jazz never seriously tried to re-sign Kanter indicate they were going to move on from Kanter. DL should have traded Kanter earlier and gotten more back. DL clearly waited to long and got diminished returns. He needs to be better about it.

Not sure why that's so hard for others to admit.

You've done it multiple times. At some point it stops being a jest.

When there are posters that refuse to praise anything he does I'll continue to tweak their nose. If you have a problem with that you'll get over it.

Agree with this. If anyone thinks other GMs can't see that he'll demand MAX next year in RFA (or simply sign the QO and being UFA the following) and that they'd have to be prepared for that possibility is kidding themselves.

How much you wanna bet he doesn't sign a max contract? He'll sign a contract, but it won't be a max. Back up all your talk for once, huh?

LOL .. I knew it would get personal with you. Too predictable bro.

Max or not it will be more than teams are willing to pay for a back up center. Otherwise he'll just sign the QO, wait out a year and all that team's got is a 1 year rental. What assets are team willing to give up for that?

Soooo you won't take the bet? I didn't think so.

And how was that getting personal?! I asked you to back up your talk. That ain't a personal attack Bruh.

The Jazz will be giving some minutes to Cooley soon, and your not going to notice much difference between him and Kanter.

Holy. ****.

Jack Cooley might not ever put up a double double let alone a 20-10 game. There will be a HUGE difference between the two.

Where did I ever say he'll get the MAX? I said he's demanding the MAX and if he doesn't get it he'll just wait out 1 year to hit UFA and choose where he wants to go. This would put pressure on a team giving up assets to get him.

You're using this "bet" to change the discussion.

He gonna sign with the thunder for not the max.

Also, it is relevant. You're trying to say that since he's going to ask for the max and probably won't resign, that lowered his value. I'm saying he probably will resign, meaning his value shouldn't have lowered that much. So no, I'm not changing the discussion, you're just avoiding it.

Be straight up with me Nickkkkkk, did we get as much as we should have with the Kanter trade? It's a simple yes or no question.
