Following potential 2015 draftees

NY we could trade booker, Burke, the aforementioned picks for Calderon and number 2.

Gun to your head... Gobert or Russell?

Gobert.

I do believe he is once in a decade type defender, and he's just so easy to build around. Plus Russell still lacks elite athleticism which worries me a bit at the next level. He's definitely not a sure thing yet.

I'm a huge Russell fan, but it's not close. Gobert every time. Gobert is already there and getting better. As good as Russell is not a guaranteed star.

In any Russell trade Gobert, favs, and Hayward are untouchable.

Trading junk for a potential all-star in Russell. No GM is going to do that deal.

It's 4 first rounders plus cap space and a serviceable cheap guard... Not necessarily junk man.

Exum, #10-12 this year, our unprotected pick next year, GSW pick, and the OKC pick... U telling me the sixers wouldn't think about it? They think less in terms of people and more in terms of assets.
Maybe. Exum's value is really low right now. I think he'd be seen as low-lottery value. Wiggins was traded for an all-star. That was a bit of an unusual deal. Cleveland didn't want to give him up, but LBJ insisted. The #3 pick was used by Brooklyn to get Deron. Again, an all-star.

What Philadelphia needs MOST is a PG. They're in position to get one. I don't see them giving up the #2. Jazz MIGHT be able to trade a ton of picks/players to get to #4. I think that's the highest they could get. It's very unlikely Okafor, Towns or Russell are traded. Those are pretty much the consensus top-3, with a sizable gap to the next group.

He was traded for an All-Star that had 0 interest in staying on the team he was on. Not an unusual deal.

NY actually is in decent shape cap-wise this summer. Stoudemire and Bargnani will be off the books. IINM, they'll be at $41M which gives them room to sign a max player, and mid-tier player and draft a potential all-star. Only way they'd do a deal is if there were two max players they desperately wanted to sign (like Durant and Dragic, for example). You simply DON'T trade away a potential star for a bunch of filler and some unknown future picks (which would probably be in the late teens/early 20's). Finding stars is just too hard.

Unusual in the sense the Cavs were trying to hold firm and not include Wiggins. But Minny knew they had the Cleveland GM by the short hairs as LBJ was demanding the deal get done. I think it may have resulted in a stalemate if it weren't for LBJ, with Minnesota going back and entertaining other offers.

link?

As I recall, the teams had talked about the trade before Lebron had joined the Cavs so they could pair Love and Irving. The Cavs weren't willing to risk the uncertainty of Love staying, so they didn't do the deal. After they signed Lebron they realized the opportunity to win right away and keep Lebron happy. I don't Lebron was demanding the trade happened, I just think signing him made it apparent the trade should happen.

The trade didn't happen right away. It was held up for some time. I'd have to go back and read all the articles, but I was under the impression Cleveland was trying to put together packages that didn't include Wiggins, but Minny kept saying no. I think the reason Cleveland started talking about the trade BEFORE LBJ joined the team was to do exactly that...convince LBJ to sign with Cleveland. Show him that they would have a Big-3 better than what he'd have in Miami with an aging Wade and declining Bosh.

Sixers season ticket holder here (I follow all the active draft message boards hahaha).

I'd do that trade if Hinkie had another move where he'd package Miami+Jazz to get into the 6-7 range for Kristaps/Mario. That's very much a Hinkie thing to do. Hinkie is all about asset collection, where after the trade deadline this year he said that he doesn't have the hubris to assume he'd nail every draft pick, which is why he "collects them by the bushel" in his words.

Probably Exum+Jazz this year+Jazz next year+another future first could do it.
