What's new

1-11

Burke will be fine. I bet he spends his rookie contract with us. At least until Exum emerges into a 15/5/3 player.

If I'm not mistaken (and I wasn't watching too closely), Trey was on the bench last night during a lot of the stretch run. <<This is a game without Gordon Hayward; against the worst team in bball>>

He was subbed in late (for free throw shooting), but he was pulled for being utter dog**** at every facet of the game.

That tells me quite a bit about the trust Q has in him.

I like the attitude he brings when his shot is falling. It's good for the team. Remember when so many were dissing Hayward? Hopefully Trey can mature like Hayward has. It won't kill us that he lacks on defense, and his offense could be huge for us.

quin was putting him in on offense, an Dante on defense in the last minute or so. I think they both played over 30 minutes last night.

I know Trey played the minutes. I'm calling attention to when and how he was benched.

I am so sick of Trey. It sucks that we traded up for him, and we all (except for Orangello) thought he was going to be good, and now he just sucks.

Re the minutes, I am sure Quin sat him in large part because he was sucking horribly yesterday, but I also wonder if it had to do with his injury that had him hobbling around half time?

It tells me more about his inconsistency. When he's bad, he's really bad, and he doesn't stop shooting.

Like everyone else has stated - Burke is inconsistent. He's lost games for us and he's won games for us. I'm glad he's not starting but we need some bench scoring.

He does well when he actually attacks the basket. His biggest issue is he seems to think he's a much better shooter than he really is, and he settles a lot. When he uses his change of pace and tries to get to the rim he seems to be able to find good passes or at least shoot from close-range.

Love his change of pace. It's nasty.

When he is on, he is good, but how often is he on like that? IF he does emerge as a 15/5/3 player and is 40%+ fg then I'll eat crow. Until then I just look at him as a trade piece until his contract is up. He just needs to be a consistent, either a consistently bad or good player, just choose one and go with it. It's a tease to score 20+ pts one game then go 1/11 another night. I just don't know how a player can chuck up 11 shots and make 1. I would hope that after missing 5 in a row you would pass more and create for others.

I think that he is too selfish to play point guard.

Are you referring to him not playing team defense and consistently pointing the finger at his teammates?

Maybe you mean his fastbreaks where he has an open teammate be decides he's going to take it in himself?

Or maybe you're referring to how he dribbles around with the ball in his hands for most of the shot clock and then shoots a contested shot.

Exactly. And the fact that Hayward was out, exposed Trey for the player he really is -- a guy who is merely a chucker and can't set up an offense unless it's for him to take the shot. Plus his defense sucks.

I'm fine with Trey being the #1 or 2 option off of the bench unless Hayward or Favors is in the game. It just seems like when Trey is in the game he isn't the 1st, 2nd or 3rd option, he is the ONLY option. You can't play team ball when he constantly points fingers on D and refuses to pass the ball.

Thanks for the love.

Trey's biggest problem is he hasn't embraced the role of being PG. He is trying to be a scorer, when he needs to be a facilitator. If he could just tone back on the shooting, and worry about getting others good shots I think he could make a decent starting PG. He is a good enough shooter to be an OK scorer off the bench, but tries to force it a bit too much, thus having these horrible nights. He shouldn't be scoring over 15 points a game, simply because he shouldn't be taking that many shots. He is averaging about 13 shots a night, but should be closer to 8-9. If he picks his shots better, he would shoot better.

I had so much hope for him because he was the heart and soul of the michigan team and played so well the whole year. I thought he was just what the Jazz needed, but even Quinn can't get him to play his role. Maybe with Burks and another shooter added to the team, he can to better. I think he'll get at least next year with the Jazz, and probably will play out his rookie contract, but if he doesn't improve, will just lose minutes. Not much value as a trade asset right now, and the Jazz sadly don't have any better options at PG.

I don't understand people saying Trey Burke big problem is being inconsistent. Even when he is good he is mediocre. When he is bad he is terrible.

He needs to get better - no question. But his attitude about being benched has been great, he can be really clutch, and provides scoring off the bench...usually. I get frustrated watching him sometimes, but like others have said, he's a great kid and a good teammate. Perhaps he has the tools to get better. I don't know for sure but I hope so.
