Walt Perrin says for the Jazz to take the next step the Jazz need shooters. According to FG% in the DLeague, Bryce Cotton, Kevin Murphy, David Stockton, and Elliot Williams all meet that criteria. Is he talking about bringing in a shooter in the draft or free agency?

I absolutely agree, however I would hope that going to the d-league for that role would be the last resort.
 
Well it appears that as far as shooter go the Jazz will have Hayward, Hood and Burks already under contract.

Personally I hope the jazz grab a back up C and then a shooter at either the backup SF or PG positions.

This kid would fit the definition of a shooter too, but we won't see him on the Jazz either.

This is Homey, there is no other option. He doesn't even know there is a college basketball and an NBA draft (or an NBA for that matter). There is just the D-league.
 
I want a shooter on this team. But if they are going to get minutes they'll have to be at least a passable defender as well. I think Trey's biggest problem in Quin's eyes is that he is a horrible defender.

Of those 3, only Hood has the potential of being a "shooter" per the generally accepted definition. The team has no one on the roster that is considered an excellent 3 point shooter.

I disagree. All three have the potential of being a "shooter" Anyone shooting around 38% from 3 or better should be considered a "shooter". At least if they take a fair amount of 3pt shots. I think all 3 of them can get there. Will they? I have no idea. But I'd already consider Hayward a shooter.

It's great that Hayward has that range and is a decent threat from the 3, but that is not and should not be the focus of his game. Burks is also very inconsistent for that range. It's not what he likes to do.

Not sure why we're arguing about it though. If you don't think having a great 3-point shooter in our starting lineup is important, just say that. Don't try to make out our players into something that everyone knows they aren't. I do hope that Hood can develop into that type of player though. He shot 42% at Duke, but it will take some time before we know if he can be that type of player in the NBA.

I think having 2 or 3 good shooters is more important than having 1 great one. It would be great to have 1 great with 1-2 other good ones I admit. But having Hayward 37.7 %, Burks 38.2% and Hood 34.5% but hopefully improving as a rotation of our SG/SF is not bad. I'd like to see either Millsap or Ingles moved for a better shooter just to fill in the rotation a bit. But I think 2 out of Hood,Burks and Hayward could make a very good wing starters.

I can't imagine a person more happy with the way the Jazz are doing things right now than Homey. How many D-Leagers have we given a shot tis year alone?

I understand your logic and I would certainly agree that having more players that can hit the 3 is always a good thing. But ok 3-point shooters don't stretch the floor like excellent 3-point shooters even if you 2 or 3 of them. I would much rather have that one player that the opposing defense can't ignore. I think that type of player particularly suits our style of offense and makes it so much easier for our post players to get easy dunks and for our cutters to get clear lanes to the basket.

Free agency probably or trading the pick. It is such a deep draft that I hope they do not trade the pick, though.

I think we just have different opinions here and that's okay. I usually prefer players with more than one skill and the "shooter" your describing generally does nothing but shoot. For me being able and willing to put it on the floor is an asset. I would not mind a shooter by your definition but we had that in Novak and because he did nothing else he did not play.
