Following potential 2015 draftees

I'm seeing Hayes as a back-up. He has some nice tools, but he doesn't have the size or speed right now to be an impact starter. He'll be a nice defensive player.

Bold Prediction: Nigel Hayes will be a better player than Kelly Oubre.

It'll depend where he lands though.. with the 76ers Oubre probably won't amount to much, but the Spurs could probably turn him into Kawhi Leonard 2.0.

I agree! I am a firm believer in improvement being related to your enviroment (weirdly, I've found some people don't believe this). But you should watch Popovich talk about player development and life in general in this video: https://youtu.be/EC-h9t6v9jA?t=3m10s. It will blow your mind. If Oubre doesn't work hard, no one can help him. But I think we're overstating Oubre's lack of work ethic. He'll be a good player.

Oubre and Hayes are very different players, but I'd expect Oubre to be more impactful because he's quicker and prototypical for the wing position.

So yeah, I'd say that's a bold prediction.

BOLD PREDICTION:

The Jazz will draft SOMEONE at #12. He won't play much next season.

I think there's a pretty good chance they trade the pick. DL and others in the Jazz brass have brought it up a few times. Although, DL did say there are players well after 12 that they like.

I'd rather we trade up for Stanley Johnson.

Once we've got him, I think we're set for YEARS and YEARS and YEARS.

Are they bringing back Ty to coach again?

Where does our pick get a lot of minutes?

At the 4/5 we have Gobert, Favors, Booker and perhaps Tomic.
At the 2/3, we have Hayward, Burks and Hood
At PG, we have Dante and Trey.

If the Jazz were to draft top #3 and get Russell (or maybe even Mudiay), yes, you trade Trey. Or you get Towns or Okafor and Booker is odd man out and Tomic probably doesn't come over.

But my assumption was Jazz pick at #12. And I just don't see anyone at that spot who is going to be better than the rotational players I listed above. Certainly, Jingles and Millsap get pushed further down, but that's already happening with Hood returning and they get squeezed even more next year when Burks returns.

Draft pick likely gets some DNP-CD's and averages 10-15 mins/per.

I could see him splitting some time at both, got that classic David West tweener size going on.

Just going off DX's stats: Hayes is virtually a full two inches shorter than David West. He'd probably better be able to play some SF in the NBA. He's not a prolific rebounder like many of the tweeners who have made it.

Nigel Hayes ain't no tweener. He is going to be D'ing up SF's and raining 3's. He isn't super athletic, but he moves his feet very well and has extreme length.

I agree with you. To be honest, I feel the same way about Looney, but I guess he looked bad this tourney? Just basing it off comments here, must admit I missed ucla games.

You think everyone can play SF though.

Nah, not just anyone. Don't think I'm alone in thinking Hayes will play SF in the NBA...

The big question right now is whether the Jazz can draft a wing or forward who is better than Rodney Hood. Otherwise, they're drafting for back-up players.

As for guys they might like later in the draft, keep an eye on:

Lyles
Portis
Harrell

Any of them could become the back-up to replace some of what we lost with Kanter.

Or drafting a PF who replaces Booker in another year. Trevor's contract is up in 2016. We know most NBA owners can't keep it in their pants (I'm talking wallets). They'll be out to spend big money and guys like Trevor will be significantly overpaid.
