Jazz purchase Idaho Stampede

I'm sure the Jazz news will have this too. Sorry in advance to Homey for trespassing:

It only makes sense to control the D-leaugue more so the Jazz can better develop people they have on their radar. Especially since we love to call them up. The more they know the system, the further along they will be.

I suspect this probably means they will move the team closer to SLC when the arena lease runs out in a year. Boise to Salt Lake is a 5 hour car ride and if they are moving folks back and forth it makes more sense to have them playing across town or even in the ESA like the LA Defenders as the JV game or a game when the Jazz are on the road. The team this year has been awful and the attendance has shown it.

Do you have a link to D-League attendance numbers?

Sorry I don't. But I would be wary of the numbers as the Stamps count tickets sold or given away, not butts in the seats. I suspect other DLeague teams do this too. A few minutes ago I had to go to the bank and bumped into one of the Stampede front office (I know this sounds like Boozer and Best Buy) and I asked him why the team stank this year. He said they were really counting on Dee Bost being here and he left for Turkey, Kevin Murphy being here and he got pissed at Snyder and bolted to China for awhile and they thought Brock Motum would be here learning the Jazz system and he went to Australia. And he said they whiffed on some of the college players they brought in. Evidentally Bost, Motum and Murphy felt that no matter how well they did they would not be called back up. Oh and they had bad luck with Cooley as he broke his thumb in the first game and missed a lot of games.

I suppose this may ease some minds in regards to the Jazz staying after the recent resignations.

I thought that is how all teams count attendance, not just in the NBDL.

I like this move and see it as something in line with the Jazz beefing up scouting and development.

Move to Provo perhaps? Or will the Jazz keep them in Boise to try and increase the Jazz's popularity in ID.

They will probably move it to Utah somewhere that isn't too close to SLC but still has a large population.

The D-League is going to suck dick until they starting giving 6 figure salaries. No one wants to make 25K a year when they could be making 6 or 7 figures overseas.

I really hope in the next CBA both sides shell out .5% of their profits to building the D-League into an actual league.

Maybe move it to St. George? but then it would still be about the same distance away...

I'm excited that they will probably rename it and get new uniforms!

And that is for the DLeague "stars." The salary cap means most players are playing for about $18K. Should we talk about slavery in this thread? JK. But yes, the NBA has talked about the need to a) make the DLEague a true minor league system and b) bring up salaries. Will be interesting to see if any of this, including the age limit, is brought up during the next round of labor negotiations.

So why did they get rid of the last D-League team that they owned?

They didn't own it, IINM. Most DLeague teams have local ownership. The NBA affiliate is in charge of players and business operations; the owner is in charge of marketing. Good decision by Idaho owner to cash out before the team folded. Can't imagine he was making much money.

Correct. Brandt Andersen, son of LDS Apostle Neil L. Andersen owned the Utah Flash. He will live in infamy forever for the Michael Jordan hoax.

D-League already failed in Provo once. If it is making money (or at least surviving) in Boise, I would think it would stay there.

Just a short plane ride. I just don't see them moving it to a place where it would be likely to not survive.
