The Official 2014/15 Tank Watch thread

Haha.. yeah if you call Pop trying to strangle you with his "words" fun... that or that "death stare" of his.

The interesting thing is, that if I had a chance to have dinner with guys like Pops or Kerr, I probably wouldn't talk about basketball with them. Same thing with Snyder. Smart guys are interesting to talk to about whatever they tend to want to discuss.

Interesting... but I wonder if they would still be 'interesting' talking about something else? Imagine talking to Jerry Sloan about the state of world's economy?

See, Jerry's more of a country boy. I'd probably steer the conversation to farming and food production. We small-town Illinois boys could probably chat all night about that stuff. Plus, Sloan was raised in the same small Southern Illinois town that half of my family came from. I'm sure I wouldn't have any trouble finding common ground.

Hayward doing his best to help us out. Jazz have a chance at finishing 10th instead of 12th. WAY TO GO, G-TIME!

Hayward is finally on the Tank Train IMO. He realises we're 1 decent player away from a playoff team (which is also what Harpring said). Hayward is not stupid. The FO might be gung-ho trying to win every-single-game, but Hayward is smart enough to play the "long game".

This isn't serious right. Hayward doesn't care.

Anyone know why Hood is out... Violent Diarrhea?

Who knows? The Warriors if you remembered tank hard one-last-time and got Harrison Barnes before they started winning the very next season and had not looked back since. They rested Curry, Klay, Lee, Bogut.. pretty much the whole starting lineup at the end of that season.

That was a coach front office thing though. Hayward likes to compete there is no way he is sitting out to help us move up two spots in the draft. Players don't tank... Front offices do.

Or it could have been a mutual decision? DL asks how Hayward is feeling he said he's 70-80% but can play if needed, DL erred on the side of caution and said "We need you healthy next year for the playoff run". Hayward gives DL a wink and a nod: "That will suit me just fine sir".

I could maybe see Hayward saying if I'm hurt why come back... It wouldn't be to support the tank. Players generally loathe that and just don't care about draft position. Some of the nuggets players were healthy but asked to sit out for rest recently... Based on post game comments they weren't pleased. Hayward won't risk his long term health but would play if he felt safe.

We need hood to play... What's up with his stomach? Dies he have foot and stomach issues?

The situation in the Eastern Conference is getting interesting. Boston, Indiana, Brooklyn and Charlotte are all within half a game.

Edit: Now the Jazz are tied for the 11th spot with Indiana, just a half game out of a tie for 9th.

I wouldn't mind the rest of the season just being "Hey, let's surround Favors with a bunch of ****ty players and teach him how to handle double teams".

.... and 9th is where I predicted we would finish about 3 weeks ago exactly because all those EC teams would be fighting for that final playoff spot right to the final game.

Let's see what unfolds.

Jazz could lose 5 of their last 7 games. Tough schedule:

@PHX
Home & Away with SAC
MEM
@POR on a back-to-back
DAL
@HOU

We all saw what the 9th pick can get you last year.

Yes, but I think that the Jazz should look to trade up for a player they value. The higher they pick, the less they (theoretically) have to pay. Just because you have the 9th pick, doesn't necessarily mean you're picking 9th.

If the Jazz have decided to focus on draft position, here's the three things I want to see.

#1.) Hayward sit unless he's 100% healthy and Favors and Gobert anchor the team. Favors should shoot a couple more 3's and Gobert should start shooting even when he's away from the basket. If Gobert can score on more than putbacks, and Favors can truly stretch his range to the arc, that would do a wonder for the Jazz offense next year.

#2.) Bench guys need more burn. Give the starters a bit more rest and take some time to assess the future potential and role of Booker, Burke, Hood, Jingles and Millsap. Cooley and Cotton too, but they're a lesser priority.

#3.) Swap the offensive roles for Exum and Burke. Dante needs to shoot more and Trey needs to facilitate more. My expectation would be for Exum to start taking several more shots per game than he has thus far. I care far less about how successful they are at it, than I would be in seeing how they would respond to that challenge. If there's another close game that requires a game winner, the ball needs to go to Favors, Exum or Gobert. They need to feel what it's like in that pressure cooker.
