Kanter watch

The other thing about Kanter is he is fighting through injuries and not just playing to be out there but running like a deer down the court and playing emotional in a good way with a proving to haters how good he is mentality ,even starting to dribble down the court like a guard from time to time. future all star,he is a late bloomer due to his late start and bad fortune. high ceiling,if he only plays ok D how good is he going to be.

Empty stats, dudes. Empty stats!

They are not empty. They are the signs of an outstanding offensive bigman running towards his ceiling and they warn the opposition that if he learns decent defense, he will be all-star caliber. Like it or not but offense makes a lot of league renown. NBA accounts already call him a star. We know his real deficiencies but if he gets there, he will be worth of a 3rd pick. Maybe more.

You are preaching to a choir, mate. I am pissed Kanter got traded for a bag of chips. It would be hilarious if Kanter ends up playing Harden's role as 3rd go-to scorer for OKC and takes them to the finals this or next year.

Alright man. But 3rd? Will Durant ever be back? Or better, will Enes be wearing the Oklahoma pajamas after this offseason?

"Westbrook took umbrage when questioned about the team's defensive struggles recently.

''Defensive issues carrying over? I'm confused, you didn't say that when we won four games in a row,'' Westbrook responded to a reporter. ''I'm just a little confused.''
Oklahoma City has allowed 100-plus points in five of its last six games, including 106.3 points during its recent win streak."

No question Kanter is a great offensive talent. But he's never going to anchor a quality defensive team. And defense is what gets you shots at a championship. You can't hope to just outscore everyone. I think the SA game showed what happens when you're missing a defender like Ibaka and have only offensive-minded players in the game.

Spurs game was mainly the sign of the playoffs drawing near. The wolves of championships and playoffs started appearing with their real claws and teeth.

To be fair, ibaka is out during this stretch right?

Kanter should not be the anchor if a defense but if you surround him with other good defenders and a good scheme then I think a team with him on it could be fine defensively

Except you don't always get to choose what defender to use on a pick and roll iso. Playoff teams will make you pay for a crappy defender. Additionally, they will also be able to do a better job keeping Kanter out of the post.

Kanter's gonna suck in the playoffs dudes. Pretty much all the western conference playoff teams have great spacing and get the majority of their offense via the pnr. Plus, his offensive stats and efficiency will drop.

Not 'hating' on him, that's just who he is as a player. Would have loved to keep him around as the best third big in the NBA, but it was pretty clear he didn't want to be here.

You can't choose the big to defend it but you can choose the perimeter defender to defend the ballhandler and they do miss Durant and Roberson as their defensive perimeter players. They are missing arguably their best 3 defensive players.

I'm basically just saying that okc defense is probably better with ibaka than without I guess

Kanter is not a good defender but I'm sure he is not this bad. He is avoiding fouls so he remains his playing time to stuff the box-score which he obviously prefers over becoming a hero of some fans with playing strong defense and having foul problems.

I have a theory that he will start busting his buns on D whence he pickpockets his contract.

We shall see.

There is no way Kanter is going to play better defense after he gets paid. It just doesn't happen.

Pity the Jazz didnt' trade Kanter to Bucks for Ilyasova...he was the stretch-four the Jazz needed.

Yesterday he put a show against Indiana.

Getting paid never made anybody play harder. Players play harder to get paid all the time though. The fact that Kanter is still not playing defense despite it being the one thing that could hurt his contract situation should not be encouraging to his fans.

Andy Larsen did am ama on reddit. One question I found interesting was this.

"From your perspective, did you get the feeling that Kanter was unhappy here before rumors started going around?
Also, out of the core players, who are the most personable?"

AL: It's funny, Kanter was an incredibly happy-go-lucky guy. He was easily the nicest player to me, even when I was ripping him: he's just a fun guy! But then, after games, especially losses, you could just see that it was eating him up that he wasn't getting more of a chance to contribute. He was making very thinly veiled comments about Ty's coaching and rotations. He clearly thought that this year would be a new beginning, but when a second coach limited him too (due to his defense), he wanted out. But yeah, he was unhappy about his situation at least going back to year 2.
Out of the core players, probably Gobert now? Hayward sees dealing with the media as part of his job, and Favors is that super quiet, hardworking type. Burke's really professional and smart, but almost too much so, and Burks doesn't talk long enough to have any idea what his personality is like. Exum I don't think has really hit his groove as a 19 year old in a new country, I'm curious to see what his evolution personally is like.
