That was a hard angle for that ref to see though. It was hidden from his view.
Like the NBAtv analysts were saying, if the ref could see the play good enough to tell Hood that Hood stuck his leg out, then he should have called a foul on Hood. Then he should have met together with the rest of the refs to realize that Hood didn't stick his foot out and given Hood 3 shots.
The ref 100% screwed the pooch on this call. There is no excuse for the ref here. He sucked it up. He failed. He decided Hood committed a foul and the REF decided that the REF would determine the outcome of the game by NOT CALLING a game changing foul, because the REF decided he knew best how the game should end.
Inexcusable on the ref's part. It is not his job to determine the end of the game. It is his job to call the fouls he sees (which, in this case is Hood fouling the PHX player by sticking his leg out) and then meeting with the other refs to make sure he got the call right (which he didn't).
The ref decided he was bigger than the game, and that the ref should not call the fouls he sees, because the ref gets to decided how the game ends and who wins or loses.
