Dante Exum .. Best case scenario

Floor: riding the pine in China.

Ceiling:

pessimistic = Howard Eisley with height and more athletic
Realistic: more athletic Raymond Felton
Optimistic: 4/5 of Gary Payton (all the defense / 60% of the offense)

Like it. I'm thinking Gary Payton or Jason Kidd. Those guys could both affect a game so much without even necessarily putting up big numbers. His 12 assists in that game and his Glove-like defense are harbingers of what's to come. IMO he has it in him to be the most improved player of the next three years. Jason Kidd was nearly 22-years-old when he played his first game in the NBA. Let's see where Dante is when he's 22.

I just want him to get better than what he is currently...I'd take a serviceable, defensive minded player for 500, Alex.

Best case: a solid 3 and D guy.

That is not best case. He is already a good defender and he is shooting the three at a decent clip right now around 35 percent for the last 2 months. So he is already a decent three and solid D player.

I think his best case is higher than what he is at the end of his 19 year old rookie season.

Curious if that guy follows Peter Novak on Twitter. That guy has been saying the same thing about Exum for a while now.

Best case scenario is he turns on beast mode, and becomes better than Jordan ever was.
The Jazz win 15 straight chompionchips with him running the point.

He gets a bigger statue than the statues, with a gecko on it.

Jazzfanz lives happily ever after.

I think we have to wait for summer league. After summer league it will become obvious what Exum will project out to be for the rest of his NBA career. . .

Better than best case:

After retiring, Dante invents a time travel machine and promptly travels back to '98. Jordan goes to push off Russell, but Dante comes from the weakside and swats that ****. Dante then scores 87 in game 7 taunting MJ up and down the floor until Jordan cries.

The end.

I hate comps, but if we're going there, I still think Penny Hardaway as a ceiling. He's just so timid, raw, and young right now that it is hard to say.

What? Historically, PGs have made the biggest jump between year two and year three. Everyone was shocked when Deron made a huge jump between year one and two, because it was a "year early."

By the end of Dante's third season, we'll have a good idea as to what we have. He'll likely still have several additional jumps to make, but they'll be minor in comparison to his development over the course of the next two years.

I imagine that at summer league this year, we're going to see quite a bit of the same Dante - only with a more aggressive mindset and inferior competition.

Best case: This thread gets closed, and we all move on with our lives only to start very similar threads with annoying regularity.

P.S. Don't put a "best case" ceiling on the kid. He's only 16, he don't have a rep yet.

Comps are really difficult. Dante is so unique (this may be a good thing or a bad thing) that it is nearly impossible to put a comp on him.
