Right, Tomic is a star in Europe. With the Jazz, he'd get back-up minutes behind Gobert. Why trade for Pleiss if you believe Tomic is coming? The whole-- "We're willing to buy out Tomic..." could be a smokescreen.

Isn't Pleiss super young on that team? Maybe they are thinking of bringing him over once he get's a few years of experience. That way they can bring Tomic over now and play him. Who else did the thunder have available to trade too? Maybe the Jazz just wanted more assets from the trade.

I don't think it's a smokescreen. I think Lindsey just got as much value as he could from OKC. Does put some pressure on Tomic. It's now or never for him. If he doesn't come over, Jazz will go with Pleiss. Personally, I think Tomic just wants a raise and multi-year deal from Barcelona. But I'm ok with that. We want players who WANT to be in Utah and are willing to accept their roles. Not sure Ante would be ok with being a backup to Gobert after being the star for his team in Barcelona.

This is why I've always been lukewarm on Tomic. He just doesn't seem to be excited to join us (unlike Neto who came out and did some hiking with Gobert last Summer in Utah).
We don't need guys who aren't happy to be here. To me our team culture is the most important at the moment. We don't need guys dragging their feet. We've learnt what that's done to us with Kanter.

Timor pleiss has a ton of potential. I am ok with him as the 4th big to start the year with booker first big off the bench.
What are we smokescreening for?
Agreed if Tomic doesn't show we grab Pleiss and we develop him slowly as Rudys backup, he seems alittle raw a perfect 15 minute guy so Rudy can keep his mins to 30ish (less wear and tear and likelihood injury/burn out)

You guys make me laugh. Tomic has never said anything about not wanting to come over. That's been the opinion of other people. He was interested in coming back in 2012, but the Jazz front court was stacked (Jefferson, Millsap, Favors and Kanter) and KOC wanted him to "blow up" over in Europe before coming over.
He signed a nice contract with Barcelona, developed his body and his game and now that it sounds like there might be mutual interest, people make up all this stuff about him using the Jazz. Maybe he really is happy there and isn't interested in coming over. . . but if the Jazz (Snyder in particular) do want him to come over, the money in the NBA is so much better that he likely will.
It won't cost them anything more than a below market contract for a skilled big man (by NBA standards) and the 2008 2nd round pick that they used to draft him. This is exactly how "draft & STASH" is supposed to work. Acquiring Pleiss had nothing to do with Tomic, and everything to do with getting the best trade compensation as possible. I think he'd be great in Snyder's system and well worth whatever contract the Jazz deem fit. That also frees them up to go after a wing (Hezonja/Johnson) or stretch 4 (Porzingis) in the draft to further build the bench.

great post. I am just tired of disappointment and I want tomic as a back up so bad. he would flourish in Utah as our 3rd big. he could get 20 to 25 a night easily. 3 year 18 mill seems about right.

Considering the role that "vets" like Ingles and Millsap filled here in a depleted wing rotation, I think that Tomic would have a big role right away AND thrive in Quin Snyder's system. He's a great fit for this roster.
