The Case To Bring Back Brock Motum

ANd Ingles actually has better measurments than Motum for being a PF....

Huh? Motun is 6'10" with a very good outside shot. Sounds like a perfect 5th big to bring in - unless they draft a PF.

Pleiss > Motum
Maybe. Not saying the Australian league is anywhere near Euroleague; it isn't. But Motum was voted the best at his position in Australia. Worth bringing to camp. He has a conditional contract next season with Adelaide. I imagine there's probably little to zero buy-out. Replace Jerrett with Motum? Yes, I'd do that.

All- NBL team for 2015: Cedric Jackson, Scottie Wilbekin, Josh Childress, Brock Motum, Brian Conklin

Ingles and Motum have about the same wingspan, and Ingles has a better standing reach by about 3". Motum is more likely 6'9 than 6'10.

Motum is ok, nothing special. I don't see how he's better than Jerrett actually.

Draftexpress bud, look at it.

Australian league is trash. Scottie Wilbekin was a meh college player for Florida a few years ago.

Motum has a midget standing reach for a PF, it's even underwhelming for a SF at 8'6.5.

He has shown 1 good year of shooting in the Australian League.

Anybody else intrigued to see what Jingles would look like if he works on his body and stamina next year? From what I heard from the interviews the other day our coaching staff asked him to get in better shape before all things for next season.

So he's 6'9." What's important is he can hit the corner-3. WE have NO ONE on the roster who can do that from the PF position. Booker MIGHT have that range, but this was only his first year shooting three's. Regardless of the Australian league being "garbage," Motum has shown he can shoot. Never said he should be brought over as a starter. He'd be the 5th big. Utah doesn't have a stretch-4. He'd be a role player. And we need a few of those on the team. I'm tired of seeing end of quarter/game situations where the ONLY scoring option is Hayward or Trey going ISO. You just pack it in and ignore the other guard/SF or PF from outside. Having Hood and someone like Motum in the corners would open up the lane or give Utah a good shot at a 3.

Booker is a much more proven shooter than Motum....

How tall your head is isn't important in basketball, your reach and wingspan are.

The point is, you can bring in a lot of NBA 3's who can shoot better and are also physically more suited to be a NBA player than Motum is.

Please let the Motum talk die a fast death.

I don't disagree with height and wingspan being important. If Booker comes back with a consistent corner-3 and the Jazz draft or sign a stretch-4, the point is moot. But the thread was about Motum. He just missed making the team last season, looked very good in summer league and had a great year in Australia. I imagine the level of play is probably about what we see in the DLeague. WE have a couple of good DLEague finds (Millsap and Cotton). Motum is worth another look.

The level of play is probably more serious and more team oriented, but I doubt there is more talent in the Australian League than there is in the D-League.

And I'm pretty sure the NBA 3pt line is further out than what Australians us (assuming they use FIBA rules).

If he's our 5th big, he's not going to be in the game at end of quarter/gsme situations, and he's probably not going to get the ball if he is. Your point is moot.

I get that he had a year of good shooting. However, he doesn't rebound that well, has incredibly limiting size, and who the hell is he going to defend? He's not worth a roster spot. ****, I bet Novak had a longer reach than this dude.

OK, let's petition the league to cut rosters to 10 players. Only need 4 bigs, 4 wings and 2 PG's, because the others aren't going to get in games. I thought he actually rebounded and played pretty well in summer league. The only real knock I had on him being an 11th/12th player on the roster was his shooting. We're talking about a guy who plays limited mins in case of foul trouble or injuries. As for end of quarter/game situations, Quin really coaches those poorly. He needs to make substitutions and have shooters on the floor. It was so frustrating to watch Hayward or Burke dribble the clock down to 7 seconds and then usually either take a horrible shot or turn the ball over. Start the play with 9 seconds and have Favors and four shooters in the game. Then Hayward/Burke have some options as they drive. Of course Trey never passes so that's a moot point.

I'd rather grab a smart vet w/ good locker-room presence or a young guy with potential, not a scrub.

Dude, your argument was how we needed a stretch 4 as a role player. I agree. Motum is not that guy. Honestly, he's probably a worse option than Novak. Who is he gonna defend?

He certainly should be on the summer league teams and get a camp invite. He is a hustle player and a stretch 4, which is what the Jazz need. I think he would battle Grant Jerrett for a spot on the roster.

He's 3 point shooting % in Australia this year would seem to indicate he could fill the stretch 4. He did lead the the Pac10 in scoring his last year.
