Following potential 2015 draftees

Okay, here's a controversial post. Stanley Johnson is a better defender than Derrick Williams, and he has a better handle. But other than that, what makes Johnson better than Williams offensively? They're a bit similar physically (Williams lists half an inch taller and 5 lbs heavier), and I feel as though their transition to the NBA would be similar as well. While we're at it, what do you think went wrong with Derrick Williams? Why is he a bench player for the Kings?

This is how good Williams looked at Arizona.

Stanley Johnson is a wing who can potentially guard PFs when his team goes small, but is primarily a perimeter defender. Derrick Williams is a tweener without a position in the league who can't defend in the league.. he was drafted based on offensive potential, he was thought of as a versatile scorer who can create favorable matchups, while he was projected as a below-average defender in the league. Johnson is being drafted that high not because of offensive prowess, but because of defense and NBA-body. I think teams are hoping to be able to develop his offense, they probably have no illusions about the current state of his offensive game. To me they are very different prospects and should not really be put into the same mold.

Stanley Johnson and Derrick Williams are different people.

Struggling to push over a 6'4 guard in the post is a bit of a concern (0.35 min. mark) .

The guy you refer to is in fact 6'9", 240lbs. He was too late on a rotation to take the charge, has no defensive stance and stands in the no charge semi circle. Kristaps actually does a very good veteran move there to lower his shoulder into the defender's body, what otherwise would have been a charge. This way he can't contest the shot because, he tried to challenge the contact. Porzingis has really good body control/balance and takes advantage of his skills here. Good play.
You can also see his his good body control on the first play, where he changes the angle, keeps balance and scores an easy bank shot.

A new 7 minute Dekker mix. Seems to have solid post up skills. Will probably fill out to 240 pounds and could give us another scoring option on the post as he'll be bigger than most SFs.

Song is mistitled...

Should be cemetery gates. A good song imo. Probably wouldn't have used it for a basketball highlight video doe. Should have used Cowboys from Hell.

Nice post, thanks. I was comparing those two offensively. Defensively, I think Stanley Johnson will have an impact, maybe similar to James Johnson or even better. However, offensively he has to figure out where he's going to get his points. I thought his offensive game in the NCAA was actually similar to Williams and Williams has struggled to score at the next level. This is part of my rationale for thinking Oubre is a better wing prospect.

I think it's because you think of Stanley as a SF/PF combo and you are comparing him to tweeners(Derrick Williams, James Johnson). Stanley Johnson is not a tweener. Tweeners don't have the speed to compete with SFs and don't have the size to compete with PFs. Stanley Johnson is a wing! He has a position and he can both guard the position and with some work in the future potentially compete on the offensive end, too. He has the quickness and agility for it.
