Jazz Players Defend Kanter and Say He was NOT a Cancer

LazyD's "mentally impaired" comment was not meant as a clinical diagnosis.

The problem you are describing isn't locker-room, that is on the court problems.

I don't think Kanter was a locker-room cancer. The dude seemed awkward and distant with his teammates outside of his sometimes goofy demeanor. From what I read, Kanter never developed any personal relationships with anyone on the team so he was just kind of outside on his own all the time (through his choice,, remember all the reports that he was constantly on his cellphone his rookie year and didn't really talk to anyone). That probably created a slightly weird atmosphere in the locker-room. Now that he is gone, everyone is pretty much cool and seems to be friendly on a level outside of just playing basketball.
Good assessment.
Seems like this group is pretty tight. I was never really mad about Kanter asking for a trade. And maybe he and Ergul felt they HAD to go public since they had allegedly been asking for a trade for a couple of seasons. It was the way he left and slamming his teammates, coaches, fans, etc. that got me upset.

It pains me that there is anyone who cannot see the difference between somebody trying to tarnish a team, his old teammates, the fans that cheered for him, and even the city he played for and the dudes who are sticking up for all four. Understand SF that Kanter didn't just break bad on his old teammates, he broke bad on YOU. He disrespected YOU as a fan of the franchise because you don't have the good sense to be an Oklahoma City fan. The Jazz as a team probably could have let the thing go, but when Kanter started badmouthing EVERYONE, they served him up like he deserved. Even former players like Demarre stood up and defended you as a fan of the franchise. Those are the dudes that I want wearing my team's name on their chest. Those guys have my back and their teammates back, so I'll be damned if I don't have their back as well. I guess you can make a different choice if you want. . .

This only applies for someone who is truly a fan of the franchise.

I like this discussion of whether Kanter was a cancer or just a cowardly, selfish piece of ****.

What does it tell you about Kanter that Utah traded him to a division rival for essentially nothing.

You're telling me NY wouldn't want to give up a couple second rounders for him? Orlando? Washington?

I think DL traded him to OKC to sabotage that team.

I like this.

Ugh, not sure why but I always think this is a bad/terrible response.

I don't think so. What framer said was assuming the person he was speaking to us a fan of the jazz and not just an individual player. There are many fans of players that couldn't care less what franchise they play for. The way framer phrased that it only really applies to fans of the jazz not fans of the jazz while player X is playing in Utah.

He had no friends on the Jazz. They asked him who he is closest to on the team and he said Jeremy Evans. Locke said he had never seen the two talk on all the flights he had been on with the Jazz. Everyone on the team knew he was just out for his stats and he could careless about the team.

So he did care about the team? Or he wasn't very protective of the team?

That's actually pretty sad. Prior to all of this I had no idea he was so lonely on the team. He seemed like a happy and outgoing guy.

This would make sense was that he went and hugged Jeremy after he went on his tirade about wanting out just before the all star break.

he is like that immigrant kid in your high school, seems like a nice kid but always say the wrong thing being culturally different and broken English, his "friends" laugh with or at him, but has no real friends. kinda sad actually

What speaks volumes to me is how the team played in the first game after the trade (and almost every game since). It was against the Blazers. I took my son. The team played with more energy and seemed to enjoy playing together more than I've seen in (what seems like) ages. This was about more than a guy that just struggled against the pick-and-roll.
