Trey Burke: Sink or Swim?

I think you're wrong. If you could actually make a case for something Burke does considerably better than your average NBA point guard it would certainly change my opinion.

He is an above average off the dribble mid-range shooter.

I don't know this by watching him but I haven't watched a hell of a lot of him. Can anyone confirm?

what do you mean you haven't watched a hell of a lot of him? Any jazz fan who wants to make up his/her mind about Burke has had a lot of opportunity to get experience watching him. What's up?

Life. I wouldn't expect you to understand.

If Exum was ready for starter minutes, we'd be fine with Treyd playing actual backup minutes. Personally, I don't think we can assume Exum will make a big jump offensively, and I really don't want to rely on Treyd playing a significant role again next year. I'm not convinced he'll ever get a feel for when his shot isn't falling, and at this point I don't believe this leopard will be able to change his spots. He's a high volume/low percentage shooter with bad defense, and even though he may be able to improve a bit here or there, I just don't see him becoming a different kind of player. His trade value isn't very high, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved in the offseason as part of a package deal.

ouch .. Catty ..

I feel bad for Trey, he seems like a nice kid. But he aint gonna get taller or quicker and i doubt he gets much better defensively. If he learns to play smart and utilize his dribbling & midrange game and only shoot open threes he could be a really good backup PG but he needs to learn to play withing his physical limitations and figure out a way to not get abused by quality opposing PGs And to learn how to run a fast break but to me that seems a pretty innate skill to have

you have time to come onto JFC and make impassioned arguments about Burke's existence but not watch games? Yeah, I'm definitely confused.

You can take your "life" comment and stick it. I sleep for 5 hours a night so I can get to all my biz.

Well then there's really nothing to talk about. If you don't see anything Burke does then me telling you won't impact your opinion at all.
This is the answer you get when a person has no good response to a question. As Cy says he may be above average on mid-range off the dribble shooting. Okay there is something I didn't think about. And if that is his strength then our offense(as well as most NBA offenses) don't fit his best skill.

If you watch him play and then question whether he has any strengths than I really don't know what I can possibly say. You think you become a top 10 pick in the NBA at his size and physical ability without a single positive skill? So either you are being funny asking the question, your dislike for Burke is so strong you want to make it seem like he does nothing well or you basketball IQ is extremely low. Either way my comment to you is appropriate.

This is my point. Why come in here questioning peoples opinion if you yourself haven't watched enough to form a solid opinion. I'm not dodging questions, but when you ask me a bias loaded question I'm not going to answer you. If he would simply ask what it is that I think Burke skills are I would have gladly answered. Saying Trey has no skills already let's me know he is anti-Burke and will simply disagree. For example he says Burke isn't an above average passer. I disagree especially in drive and kick and PNR situations.

I'm not a Trey basher, but using draft position as an argument for a player's talent is really weak. Draft position is the result of the drafting teams assessment at the time of the draft. It is rarely an accurate indication of that same players value after he has been in the league for two years.

LOL. Same **** reworded. And no since being in the NBA I don't see any positive skills at this level. So what he can do it in college, against college kids. I wanted Burke on this team, I just haven't seen anything since he got here that screams better than below average backup PG. What I see is a low BBIQ ball hog, that sucks at shooting, defense, passing and running an offense. Those skills are critical for a guy his size, at his position. At least having 2 of them, to have none of them is troubling.
.
Tons of guys make the NBA and get picked top 10 only to be shown that their "skill set" doesn't translate, that is where I think Burke is falling into. Jimmer is a perfect example. There are dozens if not hundreds of other examples of this.

If you think Trey is an above average passer in PNR or drive and kick then I don't want your opinion of his skill set. Because it will be worthless. He's horrible in those situations. He occasionally makes a decent pass in those situation but far more often he shoots a bad shot instead of making the correct pass in either of those 2 situations. To be a good passer he must make the correct pass or play most of the time, he doesn't.

Thus making my original comment to you all the more accurate.

Count me as one of the people who has not seen any great nba skills from trey (other than dribbling I guess)

I watch all teh gamez to

Every time I get a glimmer of hope for one of these players who I know will bust I end up being let down. Every damn time. I thought for about 3 games that Trey could turn the corner and figure it out. Kind of like Kanter in pre-season 2 last season.

Trey is a broke man's Mo Williams.

Still laughing at Jamezz going ape **** about Booker and you going ape **** about everything Jazz while everyone else was too drunk to focus, including both of you.

Trust me, both of them watch every second of every game. The focus is almost unsettling, kinda like a gamer's focus.
