What's new

Pleiss

An interesting rant. I hope you are having fun debating against yourself, since no one is saying what you say they are saying. Good day.

I'm jonesing for him. He was the first player taken in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft. That was the draft Favors, Hayward, Booker, Elliot Williams and Jeremy Evans were taken. He could give us just enough minutes to let Stifle Tower flourish.

Ideally we're talking about someone to get 10-15 minutes depending on if Favors slides over to the 5 at all. Could go either way...but with Utah having Booker, I think the Jazz need to have 1 or even 2 more centers on the team. Someone to give them some mins now and a developmental player.

The Thunder have always drafted well, and they used a valuable pick on this guy. #31 goes to a very good draft-and-stash prospect. They wanted to bring him over this season. There's something here.

And guys you have to wait out a contract. How high was he actually considered in that draft?

This guy Makes Kanter look like an elite athlete.

Bitch, Pleiss

Very well? I guess kinda. Durant was a gimme, Russ was great, Ibaka was great, Harden was good, Roberson is pretty underwhelming, as is Lamb. Josh Huestis is terrible. Adams is alright. Nick Collison wasn't anything good (was their GM there then? I don't even know). McGary is ok for where he was drafted. Reggie Jackson was a good pick. Perry Jones wasn't.

They've done a great job at making their lottery picks count, had some luck with later picks, and some bad ones. That's normal. I don't think their 2nd rounders have been anything special. I'd say they're good drafters, certainly not incredible though. I just don't see it with Pleiss. He can probably guard the real big guys, but put him on a mobile big, and he's done. I think we can do better with a stateside FA than Pleiss.

Lamb was traded to them d00d.

That only works if you don't know how to pronounce his name.
It's ply-ss, not plee-ss.

This is 'merica, bruh. We haven't let Germans tell us how to pronounce stuff since we whipped the furher's hinny and sent him to the lake of fire. Grammar Nazis or just regular Nazis, in 'merica we speaks as we Pleiss.

David 'Dubi' Pick: Tibor Pleiss -- "Rumor that I'm going to Bayern is nonsense." I'm told, though, Barcelona role isn't to his liking. Twitter @IAmDPick

The season is not over yet, however the presence of Tibor Pleiss in the roster of Barcelona is already considered a unsuccessful experiment. That’s why the player will not continue to wear “Blaugrana” next season and according to Eurohoops sources his next professional destination is going to be Bayern Munich. EuroHoops.net

Could this mean a deal with the Jazz or at least a Summer League and training camp invite?

Bump

The Utah Jazz are expected to make a significant attempt to bring big man Tibor Pleiss to the team next season, the SL Tribune has learned.

Offensively I really like what I see. One of the best things Gobert learned in his 2nd year was the keep the ball high and go up with it quickly.
This guy does it consistently. Seems like someone who can finish which is huge.
Decent soft touch.
I wish there was some video on his defense and his pick and roll D.
He seems slow footed. But hard to tell from a highlight video.
10 minutes a game will work.

This is a blog on Pleiss from 2010:
https://thepaintedarea.blogspot.com/2010/06/intl-draft-prospects-first-round.html

An average athlete for a center in Europe, but probably a subpar athlete for NBA. However, moves well enough that he shouldn't be a major liability.

The strength of his offensive game has to be his jump shot. Showcases a nice balanced jumper that he can take out to 18 feet. Looks like he could be effective in pick/pop action in the NBA.

Solid pick/roll defender and a terrific shot-blocker (2nd best in Bundesliga). He seems to recover well to get many shots from behind. Excellent rebounder.

Tibor is definitely a few years away from being NBA-ready and have to imagine he will be a stash pick. Not sure he's starting-caliber center in the NBA but has the skills to be at least a quality reserve. If he works on his post game and his body, a starting spot could be in his future because his shooting, rebounding, shot-blocking and hands are already quality.

Again, this is from 2010. Since then Pleiss has put on weight. I don't know what else but I assume 5 years of ball he has to have gotten better. But this 2010 scouting report gives us reason to be optimistic.

Scouting report on Pleiss circa 2014:
https://basketballscouting.wordpress.com/2014/08/01/tibor-pleiss-scouting-report/

Standing at seven-foot-two and currently listed at 269 pounds, the German center has very decent mobility for his size. By age 24, that has translated best on his ability to finish out of the pick-and-roll, where he excels at an elite level. Pleiss is a good screener who looks to draw contact and whose large frame makes it difficult for defenders to navigate around his picks. He dives to the basket very fluidly, has soft hands to catch the ball on the move, is able to score through contact and can play above the rim as a target for lobs (25% of his points from the field in the Spanish league were off dunks). Pleiss ranked second in the Euroleague in scoring at the rim, finishing his 125 attempts at a 66.4% clip but while averaging 9.2 points at the basket per 28 minutes played.

Holy crap.

I think he probably comes over. I know he was willing after the trade, but the Jazz said no. Would be nice if we saw him in summer league, but I doubt that happens.
