Rudy only Most Improved in our hearts...

My uncle (who had six daughters) used to say, "I wanted zero kids and my wife wanted six, so we compromised at six." The NBA has apparently made a similar deal with Jazz fans regarding Gobert's end-of-season awards.

Watch out NBA. Gobaby is gunna b out of his diapers soon. Balla's goin be cryin when they get a case of whoop rash from em. Would it be fair to the NBA when he wins the MIP for the next 8 years in a row?

I agree with the award. Butler has had a phenomenal season and carried that team at times. Rudy didn't start to emerge until a few months into the season. If Gonert works on his offense this summer he could win MIP next year.

Hard to argue with Butler getting it, he transformed himself into a 2-way All-star who was also a #1 option.

Yup. + Gobert is a sophomore, Butler was in his fourth year and made a big leap. I personnally don't like that this award goes to still very young players who are supposed to keep improving. To me I would write a rule that this award should only go to a player who is playing minimum his 4th season in the NBA. Butler, even if a bit on the young side is a good recipient for this award because he had already established himself as a player to some extent, being a defensive specialist who struggle to load a bigger offensive burden when he had to (awful FG% last year). And then in his 4th year he had this big leap where he could turned into the fulll package although he had already played close to 200 games and 5 000 minutes.

By contrast Gobert had what something like 80 games and 1300 minutes on board before he became this defensive monster starting 5. This to me shouldn't qualify for the MIP.

So Congrats Butler, and let's just enjoy Gobert getting some DPOYs starting next year.

Agreed that Butler deserved it, Rudy not so much. I too see Rudy as a second year guy who should improve and did. I also see him as a guy who just got more minutes that he really deserved before then but had the Kanter-man in front of him. Will be fun to see what he brings next season.

I feel bad for you uncle, that's rough.

That's what Gobert should expect of himself as well. Before this season, nobody expected Jimmy Butler to become a 2way All Star, except maybe Jimmy Butler. Rudy Gobert has the same type of attitude. Given his defensive dominance, over the course of a full season, if he gets better on both offense AND defense, he'll have a shot at both MIP and DPoY.

Rudy responds to his doubters....
