Following potential 2015 draftees

Really could be a very good fit. I would MUCH rather have him than Looney. I hate Looney.

He's more retarded (albeit slightly) than those that ask me, "Why do you hate Looney so much." Though he's not as retarded as those who say, "You only hate Looney because you hate UCLA."

So basically lots of retards 'round here. Also, some not so retarded. But we're all retarded to varying degrees. I think.

Instead go with need and hope you also got BPA.

I'm not saying that's right or wrong, but while the easy and popular answer is say to take the BPA, it may not be that simple when all is said and done.

If the difference between players is negligible, then draft for need. Otherwise, always take BPA. That doesn't mean you might not be wrong as to who is BPA, but you still have to try and make those distinctions. That's why they get paid the big bucks. As you get deeper in the draft, I think it gets a lot more difficult to determine BPA, but the higher you pick, the more you don't want to pass on a Deron Williams because you already have Sebastian Telfair.

How good is Kaminsky's PnR defense? How good are his feet/balance when switched onto a smaller player? Can he hold quicker PFs in front of him?

Without knowing. I just assume he's really bad at defense. If we draft him it's because we want him on our bench.

When I say BPA, I mean whoever is BPA according to the board of the FO, which is the only board that matters. I just don't want them to have Booker ahead of everybody else on their board, but take Kaminsky because we need a big more than a wing, for example. That's all I mean whenever I write "draft BPA"...

I think it's way more complex than that.

Think about it that way.
How many possessions has a game? How many are locked for your current key players? How many "educational" possessions can I give away in the regular season to my young guys and still compete for/reach the playoffs?
Other key questions are:
How long will it take for that player to become efficient off the ball(especially wings)?
Look at Kelly Oubre for example. The dude doesn't have a clue about positioning, his footwork has been sloppy whenever I watched him.
How do you utilize him?
Is parking him in the corner to shoot open 3s against undisciplined defenses from the strong side going to allow him to develop serious game?

I strongly suspect the Jazz are going to utilize Hayward and Exum as their primary ballhandlers and they wanted Exum to develop more off ball skills this season as a spot up shooter or as a 2ndary attacker. He couldnt attack against scrambling defenses, but he's young, he didnt try enough though for my taste and I think that has to do with how many ball dominant players the Jazz have on their roster and also he deferred too much in these situations or relied too much on his improving shot.
So even if that ball hog is your BPA, it may not make sense to get him to Utah as you probably won't be able to maximize his talents unless you think you can totally change that player in reasonable time.

Tweet by Jalen Rose:

The 5 teams that led the NBA in made 3's are still playing. Rockets, Warriors, Clips, Cavs and Hawks. Game has officially changed.

Jazz finished 17th in made 3s.

For me the draft is a long term investment, and I personally don't care much if they'd be able to contribute right away. Almost by default(unless they are truly exceptional talents) rookies do not have serious contributions to a team in the first two years. If Oubre has the biggest chance to be the best player in the long run(most of their absolute value comes in their second contracts), then draft him. Players would grow a lot with pro-coaching and playing time. Your question, as far as I understand it is - how would you find playing time (and responsibilities) for him to develop his game. I think we are not at a point where our wing rotation is so good that he won't be able to get playing time or opportunities to work and as you pointed out he will have training sessions and summers to work on expanding his game... Summers are usually the time when the most serious advances in players' games are made. I think in this current roster he'd be 4th option on the wing right away and will have plenty of opportunities to develop plus he'd have a great developmental coaching staff to work with in the summers.

Frank says he wants to transition into a PF. Which is fine, Gobert and Favors have the center spot covered.
We would be asking Kaminsky to become the player Kanter couldn't become. His role would be crystal clear. Hit the 18 foot jump shot reliably, occasionally spot up from three, and not get killed on pick and roll defense.

How good is Kaminsky's PnR defense? How good are his feet/balance when switched onto a smaller player? Can he hold quicker PFs in front of him?
Frank's defense scares me. The last two years he was older and more experienced than just about every other big he played against.

I hope he proves the wrong but he would get destroyed by most back up PF/C in the Western Conference.

Exactly. I'd rather have a log jam and let the players prove themselves rather than trying to fill a need while a player you should/could have drafted takes off on another team.

Boston is a fine defensive team with a rotation of Olynyk, Zeller, Sullinger, Jerebko, and Bass. If Kaminsky can play TZ-level defense, that's all we need from him in a back-up role.

Alarms me that he wants to play the 4-- it would be easier for him to guard centers than stretch-fours. He probably just wants to be the next Dirk.

And it looks like many have addressed the question orangello had for me.

Sorry. What is TZ-level defense?
And I would be OK with Kaminsky.
He fills lots of needs.
A true center who could start if Gobert or Favors gets injured.
Can score from anywhere on the floor.
A very good and willing passer.
Has the high BB IQ Kanter seemed to lack.
Can contribute right away.
He has his risks but he seems confident he can play in the NBA.

He put up 20/11/2 against Kentucky front line in the tournament and then 21/12/1 against Okafor.
A decent litmus test. He had an age advantage, but not a weight advantage.

And his defense?

That's the big risk Jazz will have to weigh.
But he plays smart to cover his weakness.
If Gobert stays healthy Kaminsky will not have to play long stretches.
Snyder will have to consider match ups with him.
Snyder will have to design defensive schemes to cover him when on the floor.
Kaminsky's strengths should make him worth considering at #12.

I have convinced myself kaminsky would do very well in Utah.

I like booker but am a little concerned with his fit with our wings.
If Booker and Oubre are gone I'm good with Frank.

I just hate that the reason for not liking Booker is because we already have wings. The kid is the youngest American born player who declared for the draft. He has an elite skill and that skill is in high demand in today's NBA.
