Following potential 2015 draftees

It confirmed my fears in that this is a real issue and not something I just thought up based on watching a couple of his games.

Its nice they think they have it figured out... not sure if the asthma will be a bigger issue here in Utah though... I guess he'd eventually acclimate. I would not pass up Frank for him and I think he'd be available later if that is the guy we wanted. I really think we may trade down and get one of the Lyles/Portis/Looney group. Based on the interview with DL I think trading down is more of a possibility than trading up.

I suspect there are very few players you would pass on Frank for.

And I thought the article assuaged fears on him. Given that it explained why during the year he appeared winded at times. Although Ford said in the workout he got winded too, and mentioned that inhaler he takes before games. Shrug. This draft I'm perpetually shrugging.

I guess the other issue is that you can get in better shape, but some guys aren't able to push themselves when tired... It becomes mental more than physical. Some athlete's genetics allow them to be better as sprinters and some are better as marathon runners. Its like with Allen Iverson... that guy could just go bananas all game. People didn't care for him but he played sooooo hard and players would say he didn't get tired. We know his affinity for practice so I'm sure he didn't do an abnormal amount of conditioning. Some guys are able to play harder than others for longer and it is always a matter of conditioning... thats all.

I'm with you on the shrugging.

I love the Frank... Its true.

My Jazz draft board would be:

1- Towns
2- Russell
3- Mudiay
4- Winslow
5- Okafor
6- Porzingis
7- Hezonja
8- Johnson
9- WCS (I don't love the fit, but I think you'd have to take him... maybe just to use in a trade.)
10- Frank
11- Turner
12- Booker
13- Oubre

and then others that I don't feel that strongly about.

I've said before that if Looney were 10% faster/better at lateral movement then I would be very interested in him. This hip flexor injury suggests that maybe he can get 10% better. Maybe? I dunno... I'm way higher on a handful of other prospects.

To borrow one of DoL's phrases.....there Seems to be a little bit of smoke around Looney. Jazz had better do their homework to find out if it is a smokescreen, or a real fire.

Personally I'd take Portis before Looney, Oubre or Booker. But I'm not sure how I rank Kaminsky, Myles Turner and Portis.

Looney and Booker are the two guys I waiver on the most for sure, depending on the day of the week.

But I was wondering if we can't trade up and nobody unexpected drops to #12 what would people think of Boston as a trade partner? Does #12 grab 16/28/34? If we included 42 would it do it?

Portis is going to be a good player in the right system. He'll list at 6'11", he'll play hard and he has decent shooting touch in the hand and wrist. His shot needs fixed a bit, but he'll be tough to contend with due to that combination of size, motor and aggression. Plus, he can handle and guard out on the perimeter. He needs to get stronger.

I think Turner has the most upside, just given his length, shooting touch and interior defense. He's a nice player. A seven-footer who can shoot effortless jumpers from 18 feet. Turner might even get picked ahead of Porzingis, imo.

I'm okay with Booker. He has adequate size and will be able to get by on defense. His shooting should translate, but he'll have to work on shaking himself free.

Assuming Johnson is not available and we don't trade up, who would your top choices at #12 be?

Honestly, I'm not as informed this year as in past years. (Full disclosure: besides last year, when I was sure we'd have a high lottery pick so I increased the amount of college ball I was watching, the number of hours I spend watching college ball is in total free fall.)

I'd definitely take Frank and Booker ahead of him. Maybe even Oubre. Ford's article on Looney does give me some hope for him where there wasn't any, though, so there's that.

wow I am souring on Looney. I dont like players with questionable motors.

My latest mock has the Jazz getting Johnson at 12

Minny - Towns - easy pick best fit on their team and the best player
Lakers - Okafor - I have debated russell here but i guess I hope the fakers draft okafor
Philly - Russell - He is a great fit with the team that they are building
NY - Mudiay - Good start to their rebuild
Orlando - Winslow - Defense seems to be king and with the small ball being played he fits with their line up
No sactown - Porzingis - perfect compliment to cousins if they keep him
nugzs - Hezonja - BPA at this point but denver likes to draft foreign players
Pistons - WCS - this was a little of a puzzle but he is bpa and could play well with SVG and drummend
Hornets - Booker - best shooter in the draft and they need that soooooooooooooo bad
Heat - Oubre - He has a higher ceiling and miamis window is closing quickly and they need to plan for the future
Pacers - turner - Fits the comments the pacers have said about running more and stretching the floor
Jazz - Johnson - He falls into our laps

Johnson slipping to 12 is a real possibility, imo. We just need someone ahead of us to jump on Booker or Kaminsky. Lyles and Payne might also jump in certain scenarios.

David Locke was saying that Kaminsky and Oubre were the two players who stood out in last week's group workout in LA...or maybe it was Santa Barbara.

Locke hates Frank... https://twitter.com/Lockedonsports/status/603274986883784704

Says he's not a ball mover... he led his team in pts, rebs, and assists. I'm sorry he held the ball longer than you'd like.

I think Pistons would take Johnson or Frank before WCS... that's be a horrible fit. Maybe they'd take him and trade him.

I think the Jazz could make a move for Porzingis if he drifts to 7 or 8 and the teams there aren't sold on him. He might be a polarizing prospect.

Frank would be the perfect third big.

Getting Frank would be great, I think he could come in this year and help immediately help the team as the third big. If we draft him though, I won't expect him to ever be better than a 3rd big, sometimes starter.

That's true. It's definitely not a 'Go Big or Go Home' type pick.
