Following potential 2015 draftees

I think the Payne Hysteria was manufactured by his agent to get Payne into a higher tier. Two or three weeks ago Payne was on the same level as Jerian Grant and Tyus Jones. Then he works out for the pacers and then shuts down all other workouts. Then a lone reporter tweets that he thinks Payne has a promise, and since OKC has made promises in the past, it must be them. Then another tweeter says that he thinks Payne's promise is higher than 14.

Now he is firmly planted ahead of both Grant and Jones as the next best pg after Mudiay and Russel. Well played by the agent.

Who's Kristaps Porzingis?

I saw this tweet, I laughed.

Steve Popper @StevePopper
Just watched Grantland feature on Porzingis. Intrigued. Then saw Knicks' highlight video of Bargnani. Now scratching him off list.

Did Bargnani block shots or plays anything that resembles 'defense' whatsoever when he was overseas?

Who will they go after then?

I'm conflicted, the best answer I can give ya is I think they will be going after trades aggressively. The roster is loaded as is, that doesn't mean its time to get complacent and handpick backups, its time to meticulously go thru these prospects and ask who's dynamic enough to possibly outplay the current starters in a few years. They should trade up for D'Angelo Russell IMO, I'd pay a steep price.

Bobby Portis(Andrew Nicholson 2.0) for instance, is a considerably inferior prospect to Derrick Favors, no?... why would you want the Jazz to settle on him with the last lottery pick for some time?? I dont get it, seems like flawed logic. I dont think Portis is much better than Richaun Holmes tbh.

I could see them targeting a shooter like Devin Booker, I cant say I'd be crazy about that value though, I dont think he's that much better than Rashad Vaughn.

If they must go with backup big's, id only be looking at the ones with immense upside like a Porzingis or Upshaw (McCullough, Kaba and Wood to a lesser degree).

I think it was givony on DX who almost a month before the draft combine said that Luwawu would be top 20. He wasn't even on any draft boards at that point.

I didn't think he would make it that high because of his shooting, if you say it looked good look out for a meteoric rise.

I definitely thought Luwawu was a 1st round player before the game, watching that had me wondering if Givony was sandbagging his talent as a bit of a hedge.. his hands have gotta be enormous to do some of the moves I saw yesterday, showed a soft touch around the rim too. I was surprised to see he only had 3 assists, It seemed like he was making good passes throughout the contest. The Jazz don't have any players quite as mobile as Luwawu, he's truly an electric athlete.

This dude projects to be a menace vs spot up shooter types, It will be quite the task to lose this guy while trying to run offense, he's got ample recovery speed for the NBA.

Just watched the DX video of Bobby Portis... He's got some issues with his game, but as a person he'd be great. I want to hear him and Favors talk together... not sure I'd understand it at all, but I think it'd make me smile.

Honestly my biggest issue with him is his shooting form is goofy... I guess if it goes in though why completely change it. I also think he's less athletic than most posters think. Big body and does a lot of things well.

I do think there are a couple value bigs available in the 2nd round that might be good. If Booker or Oubre are available I could see us going wing in first round and going with a Holmes, Christmas, McCullough in the second round.

Upshaw is untouchable though. Stuff will eventually leak out on him, but there were some rumors that no reporters would share about him that must be really serious. More than one guy has said he may not even be drafted at all.. its more than just alcohol and weed.

Tyler Haws anyone? This from a Suns website:
"BYU's Tyler Haws was the oldest of the bunch at 24, which is even older than Brandon Knight. Haws served a two-year mission in the Philippines after his freshman year.

As a senior, he scored more total points than any Division I player and ranks 20th all-time for scoring with shooting ability on pull-ups and mid-range and 3-point range.

The Utah native was 9 when Suns coach Jeff Hornacek retired from the Jazz.

"In some ways, there are similarities in my game, shooting off-balance shots and getting in the lane and just finding different ways to score," Haws said. "I've always admired Jeff and what he's doing."

Haws set the Suns' draft-workout record for the three-minute run, completing 28 3/4 lengths of the court. That broke former ASU star Carrick Felix's mark of 28 1/4."

He passed jimmer to become byu's all time leading scorer iirc. As for breaking that running record. Byu plays at an extremely fast pace so im not surprised.

I hadn't realized he was such a prolific scorer in college. He kind of reminds me of Matthew Dellavedova now with the Cavs and who played at St. Marys.

We take RJ Hunter actually... Not the worst trade in the world, but I'd rather not swap Burke for Sessions.

Actually, it's a terrible trade considering that they had the Celtics move up into the top 6 from 16 for a late 1st and early 2nd round pick. Given the assets available to the Jazz, a move up for any of Winslow, Porzingis or Johnson would be a much better result than dumping Burke for a retread, picking up a (likely) non-lottery pick next year and settling for a Tier 4 player in the draft.

They'd be much better off just drafting Turner themselves at that point.

I said it wasn't the worst trade in the world... the other trade would never happen. It is funny when these sportswriters are way off in how they value things. 16,28,33 will not get you 6... add in Smart, Bradley, or one of the BKN picks and maybe.

I could see the Jazz doing something like this, though I wouldn't move down to 19 unless someone they really liked slipped. The extra pick could be good next year with Washington though... Pierce may not be back and they are a Wall or Beal knee injury away from the lotto. If they liked Looney more than Turner or even had them as similarly rated prospects and you can pick up an extra pick it may be the pick that helps you net a veteran in a trade.

So say we followed up this deal (although we don't send Burke) with a Burke + Was pick+ GS pick and cap fodder for Holiday or Lowry? Still a bad deal? Not sure I'd do it but it isn't a bad idea.

My first choice would be to move up but sometimes you can't find a partner that wants what you have. I think we'd make a better offer for #6 than was accepted in this mock though.
