We all like different players at #12, you could argue for about 8-10 players in that range.

Here is my case for Kevon Looney, barring nobody from the top-10 falls.

Looney measured at 6'9, 222 lbs, 7'3.5 wingspan, 9'2 standing reach at the combine.

Has length comparable to Favors who has a 7'4 wingspan, 9'2 standing reach.

Looney averaged 11.6 PPG, 9.2 RPG, 1.4 APG, 1.3 SPG, 1.0 BPG, and shot 42% from three this year.

He led the Pac-12 in offensive rebounds as a freshman with a little more than 3.3 a game.

2nd team All Pac-12 player, was top-10 in defensive win shares and top-15 in defensive rating.

Was 8th in the Pac-12 as well in steals, he can become a great defender.

Everybody wants a stretch-4, well Looney made 22 out of 53 threes this year.

Also he just turned 19 in February, making him one of the youngest prospects in the draft.

Chad Ford had him as high as #6 on his big board and DX had him as high as #9.

I think he could play the 3 or 4, making him even more valuable as a pick.

A core of Exum, Burks, Hayward, Favors, Gobert, Hood, Looney would be nice.

That would be an average age of 21.8 for those seven players.

Everybody in that core is 6'6+ and the average wingspan is 7'0.5, talk about height and length.

tl;dr

Looney is bawse

He's got some nice measurables. Probably will stick in the NBA. Not sure if I see a player who will be really good. Doesn't come off as an alpha dog type. Nice role player probably.

I think spy has me convinced this is the guy to roll the dice on, but man I'm having a hard time talking myself into having patience with developing another player. I really just want to get the damn draft over with at this point.

Isn't that what we are hoping for at #12, a nice role player?

DL said something during the last game of the season along the lines of "We are already really young, do we really need/have the time to develop another young player" and then proceeded to say "On the flip side, it is hard to not get greedy with another young player especially with the coaching staff we have".

I can see your point here, but if we didn't want to develop another young player wouldn't we just trade the pick for a proven guy?

I have said before that I like Looney and could see him being a guy DL likes too.

I saw Portis play in the SEC tourney. A poor man's version of that snapshot would be a dude sitting on a couch.

I like Looney. I have only seen him play a couple of times but the times I saw he was VERY active. Really good hustle and effort guy. I like that quality. I don't think I want Booker. I want someone that is a match-up nightmare, as much as we can get at the 12th spot in the draft. I like the length and youth.

Easy to cherry pick. What about this game? Against elite talent and length.

I'm willing to take anything you throw back at me regarding Looney. He really only had 2 or 3 bad games. Once again he was only a 18-year old freshman for the majority of the year. Of course he is going to have some down games.

5 points and 4 rebounds against Arizona is one of them.

9 points and 13 rebounds against Kentucky isn't one of them.

Looney was also a role player and Portis was a #1 option getting double teamed..

And yeah, it's hard to play against Kentucky. There is no spacing in the college game and they had 2 7'ers.

Also had 32 and 11 vs Damian Jones of Vandy who is projected as a first round pick next year.

Portis also had 21 and 15 on LSU, who will have 2 of their big men go in either the late first round or early 2nd round.

Portis only had 2 games all season where he scored under 10 points, and one of them was against North Texas, in which his team won easily and he only played 15 minutes.

I'd take Portis 10 times outta 10 over Looney. Looney is ages away from being a capable four. If anything, I think Looney's future is as a wing player with the capability of playing a face-up four in spot minutes. Kaminsky or Lyles is our guy.
