Caitlyn Jenner

"think they need to be addressed to biology not sociology"

I read that as gender=sex. Am I misreading? That's why I don't think you answered the question since that's shown to be inaccurate.

Right before I wrote that, I wrote: Third, is gender something that someone self-identifies with? Absolutely. By definition, gender does not equal sex. The next thing I wrote, is that there are flaws and dangers in that as well. Do you disagree?

So, the fact that my lower-middle class neighbourhood has more cops assigned to it and patrolling it than my parents' wealthy, upper and upper-middle class neighbourhood is bad, then? We should have equal number of cops assigned to patrol both? Whether that means reducing the numbers in mine or increasing the numbers in my parents'?

Dude, really? That is not the way this was headed and you know it.

Stop trying to change the debate.

Those cops, regardless of number, enforce the exact same laws and protections. Give me a break.

Like what? I'm unsure which way you're taking it.

From a societal, "macro" view, acceptance of roles or "bending" of rules if you will, speaking western culture specificallly, has to be allowed by the society itself. This is a difficult task, as humans generally like to categorize with defined, uncrossable barriers. Those that cannot fills those roles are left in a limbo and have to try to fit into one the roles. Either go for the role you more closely identify with sans sex, or go for the sex sans everything society identifies with that sex in its gender, so there's never a perfect fit. In this context, the argument that you made earlier that someone can call you "she, Troutbum," or other such things is incongruent as those references are all done derogatively, while in the case of not calling someone by his/her preferred pronoun is done not in a derogative manner, but rather a values judgment saying that person is not how he/she identifies oneself.

From an individual, "micro" level, I imagine learning of an individual's gender not matching one's sex is jarring and can be seen as being betrayed. Guilty as charged here. Let's just recently I was disappointed, VERY disappointed at the Renaissance Faire this past month when I was told the person in a particular female elf costume was not a female human. Should really be no different in the long run when any individual doesn't portray an expectation of a particular gender. Woman that don't have maternal instincts, men who aren't stoic, women that like to get their hands dirty, men who aren't chivalrous, women who are male. They all fit in a woman's/man's gender role imperfectly.

So lemme ask you Dala, you've got a middle school aged girl playing some sport. There's some biologically male who identifies as a woman that gets to play on that team. You cool with them sharing a locker room? I'm just curious, because I would have to say I would not be comfortable with that at all.

Guess what? You and your kids have all shared a locker room with a transgendered person at some point. And it will happen again and again and there's nothing you can do about it.

Can't believe he spelled Caitlyn with a C.. Not sure mama Kardashian liked it so much.

That's got to be a weird thing to go through, your husband who you have two kids with is now a female.

They most certainly do not enforce the same laws and protections for everyone. I can drink whereas those under 18 cannot, for example.

That said, I'll play. Do you not see the qualitative difference between, for example, me spray-painting "Metallica Roolz" on a decorative piece of concrete outside a large shopping centre(I was 13, gimme a break), and someone spray-painting "Kill fágs" on the side of a local gay bar?

I dunno. I haven't seen those spray paintings yet. Possibly some real artistry involved, maybe Michelangelo proportions, even. The messages, however are equally BAD BOYZ WILL Be BOYZ shock and awe rhetoric. I knew some kids who got into an LDS chapel and wrote bad stuff on the chalk boards, like "Think For Yourselves", too. Shocking. Awesome.

When you see a spray painting "Kill Mama" do you call your mother and tell her someone has put out a contract on her life?

Come to think of it, considering some riots at concerts I've heard about, the one saying "Metalica Roolz" could really be a threat to the next wannabe rock band.

Yah, this is a bad attempt at humor. I'd still rather see this stuff come out in brawls behind bars or in the words of the prophets on the tenement walls than made a public political battle in the newspapers and media. Ain't no bad boyz can do stuff like a phalanx of police in riot gear facing off a rent-a-mob gang of do-gooders. Ain't nobuddy kin mess up the good life like a whole bunch of elected representatives passing just one more law.

how about loosining the stupid gun control laws. so we dont have to be dependent on rpotection from others.

my protection is my responsibility

DWD pwning noobs by lacking reading comprehension and dodging simple yes or no questions. I see what you did there, Dalamon.

Boats have no sex, yet boaters often refer to them using feminine pronouns and not the inanimate pronoun. Suggests gender has more influence on the use of gender pronouns than sex.
I expect to be negged for this, but personally I would be able to relate to the decision more if Bruce had decided to become a boat than to become a woman.

I am sure someone will read things that are not stated one way or the other. Because being unable to relate to him must surely mean you're full of hate for him or something.

Remember, you have to not only accept everything anyone decides to do, but also fully agree with it, celebrate it, and proclaim the wonder of it from the rooftops or you are automatically a whatever-phobe and should be shot on site, beheaded, and your head dipped in tar and stuck on a pike at the entrance to the city for all to see and know you for the evil you truly were in life.

Whoa, I had a GOT moment there didn't I?

I'd like some proof of that claim, otherwise I just have to say ********.

DWD, and yourself, operating on the standard that you are right and all other opinions are automatically wrong, and therefore cherry-picking through other people's posts and taking things out of context = pwning.

Nice call supposed science dude.
