I watched Fess a lot last night. I thought he played pretty good. What I notice is that he can pretty much man up a guy. Yea he gets burned a few times but he can physically match up with most any one in the league because of his size.
What he needs to improve on his obvious. He needs to improve his FT shooting, his rebounding position is pretty poor. There are a lot of times where he is simply out of position. He also needs to rip down some rebounds.
On offense Fess does set screens but he needs to hold them a little longer. Sometimes he curls out of them too fast which limits their effectiveness. He needs to get back into shape which I think would happen if he played consistent minutes.
I don't know if the comments were from DW but I agree Fess needs to get Elson's minutes. Elson hasn't exactly been tearing it up and he is not the future of the Jazz. I think Fess can eventually turn into a good role player if Sloan lets him play through some of his knucklehead moves. I don't really see why he wouldn't because every guy on the Jazz seems to make some bad moves. I would tell Fess that I want him to go out and play hard and not worry about fouls or mistakes. I am going to give you a role on this team. If Sloan would do that I think he would see a return in our investment.
As Frank Layden said, "you can not teach height (size)."
