Hood is more important than you think

Last year, right before the draft started I remember Rodney Hood being in the top 15 players in the draft. As he fell in the draft, I started to get excited and I knew the Jazz wouldn't pass him up which they didn't. I was stoked!

Burks shot 38.2% from 3 last year before going out for the season. What more do you want?

And career-wise he's a 35.6% 3 pt shooter. Pretty respectable.

And as has been mentioned enough, Burks was put in plenty of late clock and full court heave situations. I believe he is a true 40%+ shooter in a better offense than what he played in prior to his shoulder injury.

Hood reminds me of Jimmy Butler when it comes to work ethic. Butler spent the entire last summer in the gym and went from a defensive role player to near franchise level player.
It was the most improvement I have ever seen in a player.

Why?

A little of topic, but what was the knock on him, why did he fall in last years draft?

Bad defender, couldn't shoot, unathletic, and slow.

He wasn't a projected lottery pic either: https://jazzfanz.com/showthread.php?30285-Colton-s-2014-Mock-Draft-Compilation-v-3-0-(final)

I like it but the following would be more effective maybe.

Exum
Hood
Hayward
Favors
Gobert

Fight for 6th man
Burks
S. Johnson

Then if anyone is having a bad night, pull them and plug in one of the next 2.
Oh I agree your lineup is better. But his gives us a lot of options. Being able to rotate players and cause matchup problems for other teams is what made GS so good this year.

Poor defense. Alligator arms. Unathletic. iirc

Hood has been doing "2 a days" since May, pretty strong commitment for a rookie. Then he has summer league taking up most of July, no rest for the weary. As for Butler, here is how he described his last summer:

"I wanted to be so good at the game that we didn’t have cable, we didn't have the Internet,” Butler said. "Whenever we got bored, all we would do is go to the gym. We'd eat, sleep and go to the gym. We'd go three times a day because we didn’t have anything else to do. We were sitting on the couch, looking at each other, saying, ‘What the hell are we going to do all day?'"

I was thinking it sounds like a day in Dat fish life doe.

Did I do that right?
I wish.
My wife just got a new car and went from full time to part time.
So I'm now over 60 hours every week. (I'm signing up for all the OT I can get)

I'm even working 12 hours on Sunday cause I volunteered for it.

But yes, kicking it on the couch does sound lovely. No tv though? F that noise.

(I did like your use of dat and doe. Well done)

Dude women and new cars. They're happy about it for like a week. Give me a cheap car that runs and I'm happy as long as it's still running. If I was single I'd probably ride a tote gote in the summer and not go anywhere in the winter. Srs that's exactly what I'd do.
When we had our second child we had to get a new car for some damn reason. Whatever. I hate shiny things. Freedom killers they are.

hood is legit.

I remember a goldenstate announcer said..

"mark my words hood will be a 20ppg scorer in this league"

Here is my prediction for Hood for this upcoming season:

18 PPG
48% FG
40% 3PT
74% FT
4 reb
3 Ast
1.5 st
All-star dark horse.

I think these numbers are realistic for hood. The only problem is that Burks is going to blow up and hood won't see the court enough

No it's okay. A 3-man rotation between Hayward, Burks, and Hood at the 2 and 3. That's an average of 32 minutes each. We were forced to play Ingles, Sap, whatever because of injuries. We don't have to next year if everyone stays healthy.

I think we have far to much scoring and wing depth for hood to put up 18 a game. Hell I think that's about what Hayward will score per game. Think he will get 14-16 a game. I think Favors usage will go up. Think both his post and midrange game will improve. Also Burks will be back and, even Ingles should come back with tons of confidence, and start the year better then he did the start of last year.

I'm really excited for our wing depth and for the possibilities for small lineups we will have. Imagine a lineup of Exum-Burks-Hood-Hayward-Favors/Gobert. I'd love to see that one in action, with Hayward playing the playmaking 4 who can also stretch the floor. 3 good/great shooters spacing the floor for drives by Dante and rolls by the 5 and cuts by all 3 other positions...

I think Hood is better than Burks right now. I know Burks lost a season but I think it will be a real competition between them.

Yes. It will be Ingles (if he's still around) and Millsap who will see their PT diminish the most.
