What's new

Lyles is the pick at 12

I thought DL said that since we're set at every position we had the chance to take a high risk / high reward player. That's not Lyles.

He also said that we had so many assets we needed to aggregate them to move up.

I wanted Turner. I knew we had to get in front of Indy. 1 spot.

If Winslow hadn't fallen to 10 maybe we coulda dealt with Miami and we'd have McRoberts on our team in addition to Turner.

OK, I'm done with the negativity... posted my impressions, my reaction, my grades of the picks... From now on, it's time to be supportive of our new rookies and hope they reach their full potential and lead us to championships(yes, plural... not 1, not 2...).

Come on everybody, lets welcome our rookies...

1..2..3... TREY ROCKS!

The one thing I'm happy about is how the Jazz are adding more cerebral players under Quinn and moving away from blockheads. It think the blockhead factor plays heavy into what the Jazz do and will going forward. The fact that they knew immediately when Jingles had been cut and pounced on it tells me good things about their scouting awareness. Also, what the hell do we want with Booker when we have Hood who is better by a mile? It would also be interesting to see how many people complaining now were on the Vonleh wagon at FIVE last year. Lyles is better than that guy at 12 in a poorer draft. I guess you can make the case that Booker will be better, but it is arguable. The problem is that nobody fell this year which we have been feasting on lately. Sooner or later that string was going to run out. Nobody really traded into the lottery either, the price was too high. If Snyder and DL wanted this guy over Booker. That's good enough for me.

If that player exists... which I don't think he/she does at #12 and beyond... You could argue Oubre is that player, but listening to his post draft interview I think he could be toxic to our team.

Since that player doesn't exists I think it was prudent for DL to take the next best thing, a prospect we can slowly bring along who has the potential to be a pretty unique player (i.e., a 6'10 SF/PF/C who can handle the ball and make plays).

Not that you can really compare but in 2005 NC had 4 players drafted in the lottery and the best NBA player was Marvin Williams (which Lyles could be compared to just without the confusion to what position he will play) and none of those NC players amounted to squat.

#2 Marvin Williams
#5 Raymond Felton
#13 Sean May
#14 Rashad McCants

So that equates to everyone being pissed off we didn't draft Rashad McCants. Kinda funny Felton could've been pretty good but behavioral/personality issues kinda kept him (along with weight) from reaching potential and Willie Cauley Stein would also kinda fit that potential personality/behavioral issue (just compared to the other KU players in this draft).

Anyway doesn't mean anything but just making stupid comparisons.

I hope I am. :)

Regardless of whether we are all wrong about Lyles, your post was spot on. Exum is a terrible example to keep bringing up, for exactly the reasons you stated. CY has no good answer to reasoning, so he just says you are wrong, which s lame.

Also attitude, not saying that should be a chief or main reason for drafting Lyle or any player but it does play a part (however large) he showed he is willing to play whatever helps the team, even as the #6 HS prospect he came off the bench and not only that came off the bench to play not his natural position, I think that attitude will pay dividends on his development with the way it may fit with the Jazz.

As has been said if the other team goes small he can get some small amount of minutes at C (giving Favors a rest) although being a 19yr old rookie I will be patient in his development curve.

Cy was not too happy, too, he's just trying to switch to a more positive mode, as am I now. We can't do anything but support our rookies now and try to help them succeed.

I will be be rooting for both Lyles and Hanlan and hoping they become great players for the Jazz...

GO JAZZ!

You look up "Debbie Downer" and you'd probably see a picture of this guy:

Yep, time to get on board. I'm just hoping for some kind of significant trade to make the offseason more exciting. I'm not too optimistic about free agency, so that's where I'm placing my hope.
