*screw you Hack*

You've gotta be smiling from ear to ear with the Lyles pick? Amirite?
Nope. Not upset about it either.

Are you less excited about his potential than the Jazz FO?

I've not had a chance to compare notes with Jazz FO.

His potential is very good. If I had one knock on him (and I do) it's his demeanor is similar to Favors .. and I have always thought Favors is a little soft. Not terribly soft, but lacking the fire necessary to be a true star.
Lyles has the size and physical skills.. I will want to see fire.

If anyone can encourage that it would have to be Quin who kept saying last season he wanted Hayward to play with 'juice'... and he did. Even Favors started to play with a bit more fire down the stretch.

So I don't think they would have drafted Lyles if DL wasn't confident Quin could bring out that 'fire'.

It's a high school vid and he has gotten bigger.. but at least one can watch his shot mechanics hitting 3's.

By the time pick 20 rolled around, I had a big *** smile working, no lie. Trey Lyles is legitimately a player I've always been partial towards, since I first saw footage on him years ago.

There's certainly a bunch of posts about his recruitment buried somewhere on this board. I recall posting complaints on Jazzfanz about Lyles dropping to the early teens in the HS rankings around last summer(from around 5th), because he had been shut down for a slight amount of time. People used to be overly concerned about his weight those days. Always thought of this past UK recruiting class to be incredibly skilled, mainly because of Towns and Lyles.

The Jazz just landed a damn good development project. With the proper tweaking to his athleticism and skills over the years, I think he's got a chance to really develop into a good player. Obviously some of it is on him, but P3 should help. The game comes easy to him, with added explosion and skill refinement I see some pretty good upside, he could develop into a better shooting David West type. I know that comp will see far-fetched to some because of how tough West is, ya gotta remember that Trey Lyles is 19.

The concerns about his shooting are nothing short of absurd imo, and If thats truely something you're concerned about. he's going to prove you wrong emphatically.

I'm reaching here but is Lyles a poor man's KAT? Or something close?

Chris Manix said that too, but I don't see it though, KAT has a sweet stroke and is a legit shot blocker. Lyles is still a work in progress... hangs his hats on hustle and making plays right now.

I'm trying to convince myself about this so let me dispute what you're saying.

Towns is the beast shot blocker, shooter, athlete and he has that fire.

I think Lyles has slightly better vision and playmaking abilities.

Towns is certainly the superior prospect but Lyles is still 19 (yes, many others have said the same thing) so he can still develop a lot of his game. The Jazz have one of the better development staffs in the entire NBA (which is not something I would have said during the nightmarish Corbin Era).

I think a better comp. being tossed around this morning is a cross between Lamar Odom (size/handle) and Boris Diaw (playmaking).

Well you never warmed up to Turner, so at #12 you were looking at Oubre/Booker/Lyles. For me the choice for the Jazz is clear: Lyles.

Towns is not a great athlete, btw.

Lyles needs to follow Booker's workout/gym routine. Imagine him bulked up and more athletic. He already has the Basketball IQ, length and post moves.

BOOM!!

Trey honestly has a better array of moves, IMO, he's more 'hit or miss' dependent though. Karl can kind of repeat the same stuff and get away with it because he's agile and he anticipates really well. they are 2 of the more skilled 19 y/o bigmen you will see, I firmly believe that.

Trey's got that type of game where he's not the best athlete, or the biggest guy, but it's still a major task to try and block his shot. He's Juwan Howard with a twist of Paul Pierce..

Like KAT he can put the ball on the floor, pass it or shoot it, so there's some similarities. There's a pretty big disconnect with their body types though, Karl was too skinny and Trey's HS scouting reports used to all say he needs to lose weight, 12% body fat at the combine iirc.

People really wont like this comparison, but theres something about Trey that has always reminded me slightly of Carmelo Anthony.. Ya know how Melo faces up from slightly further out than Duncan. then uses the jab-step - and if he gets a reach he can go past and attack the rim, if the defender expects the drive, he can pull up.. Thats what Trey does.
