What does the drafting of Trey Lyles mean for Trevor Booker. Will Trevor Booker be a Jazz man next year.

It means nothing for Booker for this following season. Booker's fate will be decided entirely by whether or not the Jazz make a major signing(s) in free agency and they need his salary hold to make that signing. If we don't make any noise in FA, he will stay.

Now for the 2016-2017 season - it might enter into the picture. For example if Lyles shows a lot of promise I can imagine our FO not seeing much sense in spending a lot of money for a 3d PF.

This.
Lyles is a year away from really contributing. Until then, Booker is still a better option at PF. He wants to come back, but he also knows his contract may need to be used in a trade. Hope he comes back. On the other hand, if his contract IS used in a trade, that means we made a really big move.

It also means that the Jazz can come back and resign him at the outset of free agency a year after trading him. They'll have every key player under contract and millions of dollars in salary cap.

I wonder of they will not pick up Bookers $5m extension with the understanding of doing a longer deal 2-3 more years at a lower price point per season, like 2 years $8m

I don't see any scenario where Trevor Booker gets less on his next contract. He came in and was an immediate spark for our bench. He brought attitude to the team and was the catalyst when Enes Kanter became public enemy #1. He shot the ball well to finish the season is and had a strong game starting in place of Favors late in the year. He's going to get a raise from someone either this year or next.
