What's new

Pleiss

Don't we have like 3 guys who can just be cut by mid-season and aren't fully guaranteed?

Can, but why? If they aren't at the salary floor, then why on earth would they? Like I intimated, some of these guys are no-risk gambles that can be used as trade assets.

Like they decide they don't like them and they want to try some other guys out to keep the non-guaranteed thing going. It's what they did with Felix/Murray, right?

Ingles, Millsap an Cotton were hits (to one degree or another). I see Cooley and Johnson not being brought back though. They could try out 1-2 DLeaguers with their spots.

More important than what his actual sources are, he must out them, just like precisely no one else in his field would do or does. Because gregbroncs sez.

I think what GB was saying was what I was saying ... Jody should've tried to corroborate the source because it was such an outlandish rumor.

The last couple spots could be non-guaranteed until around he 10th of January, IINM (when by NBA rules players have to be released or their contracts become guaranteed for the remainder of the season). Not sure how the contracts of Cotton and Millsap are structured, but it would be pretty standard to have Hanlan and whoever else we might sign (Cooley, Johnson, Motum, Saunders, etc.) to have non-guaranteed deals.

I think we'll see less of a revolving door this year. Snyder was new and hadn't seen a lot of these players. Lindsey signed a few who seemed promising, but just didn't pan out. Now the team is MUCH deeper, they actually found a couple of guys they like through that whole process (Cotton and Millsap) and there just isn't much room on the roster, even at the back end.

This is from rotoworld.com.

Tibor Pleiss arrived in Utah on Saturday to discuss his future with the Jazz.
Pleiss is a seven-foot German center who currently plays for FC Barcelona in Spain, but he saw just 13.9 minutes per game last season. He does have great size and is an excellent shooter, but he wouldn't have more than a limited role off the bench if the Jazz decides to sign him. In terms of fantasy, he can be largely ignored in most leagues.

He can get about as much time with Utah as he did for FC Barcelona. Ideally, Gobert should play about 30. I know he wants more, but with the intensity he plays at, Rudy should be kept fresh, especially on the back-to-backs and those 4 games in 5 nights stretches. Besides, we're going to be blowing teams out. Pleiss can play a lot in the 4th quarter.

Looks like he is a consistent 85% free throw shooter, and really nice FG% around the basket (mostly hook shots). Less than 1 assist per40 is downright scary. Maybe Quin can teach him.

And it creates some tension between the player and the team. I'm sure DL had to make a few calls to Derrick to refute the rumor. And even at that, there would still be some doubt in Favors' mind. We don't know the whole story, but given there were rumors last year, if the "trade Favors/bring Millsap back" scenario was completely unfounded, by spreading it, ill will could still linger when it comes time to try to re-up Derrick. Only human nature that he might feel under-appreciated/unwanted.

A big, 7-foot-2 German — center Tibor Pleiss — arrived in Salt Lake City late Saturday night, an airport source informed me.

7-foot-2 center Tibor Pleiss is in town to discuss his future with the Jazz. The fact he's here obviously shows there's mutual interest.

Makes sense for him to come over now.

Even if he gets 10 mpg, he will still get way more exposure in the NBA.

If he proves to be a decent backup, he is looking at probably at least 6 million a year on his 2nd contract.

Gobert/Pliess
Favors/Booker/Lyles
Hayward/Ingles
Burks/Hood/Millsap
Exum/Burke/Hanlan/Cotton
This is the way I would do the depth chart too. Though I would be fine moving the backup point guards around

What a rotten mother-****er. Right, guys?
I never participated in that strange butthurt conversion about jody and his sources but fwiw I like reading jody more than any other local writer

After snagging Pleiss, I am 100% all for DL standing pat, and letting this cake ****ing bake.

Let's address further roster tweaks after next season. No Greens & no Carrolls pls.
