What's new

Pleiss

face-up 4. There have been some wiffs coming from the FO that he could see spot minutes at the 5 (small ball).

Yep Lyles is closer to a 5 than he is to a 3. Just because Kentucky can get away with playing lyles at the 3 in the NCAA doesn't mean the Jazz will be able to in the NBA.

Exum/Burke/Cotton
Hood/Burks/Hanlan
Hayward/Ingles/Millsap
Favors/Booker/Lyles
Gobert/Pleiss

That already puts us at 14 players, damn. Maybe Motum as our 15th player, and you can call this a season.

After snagging Pleiss, I am 100% all for DL standing pat, and letting this cake ****ing bake.

Let's address further roster tweaks after next season. No Greens & no Carrolls pls.

I'm not. The chances of us bringing in a solid FA over the next several off-seasons are pretty low. Every team will have money. Jazz should try to snag a guy now while they can.

Who? And to address which positional need?

Agree. The ONLY move to consider would be a trade of Burke. But even that might wait until the deadline. Unless Utah is getting a veteran PG in return, DL needs to make sure Hanlan and Cotton can adequately handle the minutes behind Dante.

AS for the 15th roster spot, I could see Motum. He was a pretty good scorer in Australia last season. Also intrigued by Wes Saunders. And then there's Cooley, Johnson, Jerrett, etc. Some of our rejects are going to start finding their way onto other benches; we're getting that deep!

Carroll. Our perimeter defense is still too porous. We had a top-ranked defense (based on opponents' ppg) largely because of our pace. If we're going to become an elite defense, we need a bulldog out there.

Well, the rumor was that DL had one specific FA in mind. Everyone assumed that was Millsap. In a thread a few weeks ago, I suggested it might be Carroll instead. Given the relationship between Carroll and QS, it certainly seems reasonable.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing Carroll in and trading Burke for a veteran PG.
We'll see what July 1st brings.

Over-spending on a player who is by all-means very in demand this off-season, in order to give him a smaller role & play him out of position is simply a stupid idea on multiple fronts.

Carroll simply does not make sense on this team with Hayward starting. Our defense was fine without "a bulldog" last season.

Carroll just led Atlanta in scoring in the playoffs-- why in the **** would he play out of position, juked between Hayward, Burks, and Hood? Baffling.

think roles not positions

We need a shooter. A volume 3pt shooter preferably one that plays D. If that is at the 2 or the 1 it doesn't really matter but we need one. That's why I like Green.

My preference would be to move Burke. Pick up Green. Give Burks 20 min at backup PG, see if it fits him. If he can't manage it than we need to go get a combo guard.

I'd be pretty happy with this being the basic rotation to end the season(if Burks and Lyles can play their roles)

Exum 28min/Burks 20 min
Green 28 min/Hood 10 min/Burks 10min
Hayward 30 min/Hood 18min
Favors 30min/Lyles 18 min
Gobert 30min/Pleiss 18 min

Of course there would be a few minutes anight for guys like Ingles but this gives you a basic idea

Green makes slightly more sense-- but again, will he accept a non-starting role? Maybe if we pay him a ****-ton of money-- but is that even worth it?

I'm very fine with Millsap's perimeter defense backing up Hayward. Very, very fine. Favs and Rudy have the 4 & 5 locked down. Exum was marvellous and he'll only get better.

That leaves us with one question mark in terms of defense. Give Burks and Hood a season to try and figure out defending the 2 competently-- and if they can't, we'll know by next off-season where we can either make a splash using the multiple assets we have, or simply sign an FA at that point in time.

Because we had two. Millsap and Exum played great D.

for those of you who want to talk about basketball, here's this:

I watched 75+ games of the Hawks last year. Carroll still can and still does play D on 2s and 3s. He's a spot-up guy, so his position on offense doesn't matter, 2 or 3.
