(CNN)Carli Lloyd was on a mission.It was her goal to help her team bring the World Cup trophy to the United States for the first time in 16 years.
Japan stood in her way, but it never stood a chance as the Americans' No. 10 stung quickly and often to guide the United States to a record third Women's World Cup.

The United States' 5-2 victory Sunday over the defending champion in Vancouver, British Columbia, gave the Americans their first opportunity to lift the World Cup trophy since 1999.

We were the favorites but not by allot.
Usa was the #2 team oh the world and japan was #4 I think

Doesn't hurt that alot of the women in the tournament are easy on the eyes.

The U.S. Just kept getting better and better as the tournament went on.

This. Some women's sports are painful to watch (basketball). But tennis, volleyball, and soccer are great watches. Those girls are so tough. Very cool.

The quality of women's int'l soccer had increased dramatically in the last 15 years. It's pretty entertaining to watch. Much more so than women's basketball.
