What's new

Jazz team is a big old family

These guys aren't just hanging out they are committed to getting better to making the playoff. I'm pretty sure they are working with coaches. They are also developing a bond, chemistry, and some are stepping up as leaders.

Burke and Hayward are also working out with trainers. Burke is running a youth camp a sign of real leadership. Hayward is bonding with his new, and only, child.

Beyond a non issue and you only bring it up to angle an attack at Hayward.

Salty, salty.

Probly cause he just had a kid, and parenting > meaningless SL games.
So you can't parent and also do work related things as well? His wife can't be with the child?

Good to know

I mean, it's one thing if you're going to work a few miles away, pretty different when it's a couple thousand or however far (I have no idea). Obviously it's possible, but if you don't have to, then why do it?

I'm just not prepared to rip on the guy for being with his family right now. I wouldn't for any of our players.

As long as Hayward shows up for the first day of training camp busts his ***, and scores a **** ton of buckets, who gives a F?

Seriously? Because all you that are getting butthurt about this need to take a step back. Yeah I get it, it would be nice for him to be in town sitting between Gobert and Burks in the middle of their twitter circle jerk during the summer league games, but that dude has no reason to be in Utah right now. As far as we know, the team told him to stay at home with the baby and support his wife because they are going to own his time once the season starts.

Family first with the Jazz. The Derek Fisher Experience (now F'ing over fans in NYC!) taught us that.

Aw, who am I kidding. Trade Hayward. He obviously doesn't want to be a Jazzman. Signed a contract with Charlotte after all.

I think it is great that our guys are here in SLC and they are supporting the SL teams interacting with the coaches. The rumor is that they are going to also follow the players out to Vegas.

Any thoughts on the absence of Hayward and Burke?

I know that Burke will be blasted and you all will give Hayward a pass. But, for a supposed leaders looks like he isn't putting in the same commitment as the rest of the team.

Discuss.

Yes, but is he a good leader is the question. If it's true that he's the go to guy, the guy that's supposed to take the team under his arm to be successful he should and gets paid enough to be involved with all the teams plans for the future. I think it would have gone miles towards my view of Hayward if I would have seen his face in SL. Sorry but I'm not buying it, he is not entitled to not having to show up until the season starts just because he's the 'star'.
U guys do realize that just two years ago Hayward was one of the only members at SL supporting the team and working out with them. Right? Where was the criticism of Favors Burks Kanter back then? To blast Burke and Hayward like that for not being at summer league is embarrassing and idiotic on you guys
Pardon me? I think mom could have that covered for 2 weeks out of a 4 month vacation, a guy that's making megabucks, give me an effin break...
Really!!! I'm sorry, but a mans first commitment is to his family. If Hayward has his first kid and is gone 8 month out of 12 then this is valuable bonding time with his new baby. There's no reason for him to be having this little Holliday skipping out on his husband and father responsibilities spending time and having fun with friends and teammates while his wife is home taking care of his son for even longer with out him then she needs to be.

But then I'm sure u have no idea how to act like a real man do ya.

There's no such thing as "enough" time with your children.
I'm just saying. You have kids right? Do you go to work? Do you go out with friends? Or do you stay home with your kids 100% of the time?

I'm one of the people saying that it's not a big deal that Hayward wasn't at summer league and that I don't blame him for wanting to be with his family. I would too.
But a poster said that he would be mad at Hayward if he was attended summer league. I think that is kind of dumb.

Imo it's ok to spend 90% of your time with your kids and then go watch a ball game.
I didn't think anyone should be angry at someone for not spending 100% of their time with their kids

Dude, I'm one of the guys who has been saying that it's fine that Hayward wasn't at sl.
A poster said that he would be mad at Hayward if he was there though. I asked him why he would be mad at Hayward.
Would it mean that he is a horrible dad and bad husband if he flew him and his family to salt lake and then he attended a game for a few hours?
I mean what a dick right? Seems reasonable to hate him for that. (Sarcasm)

Burke has a one year old child, too.

NBA players have almost no time for their family during the season, what with all their games, practices, film sessions, rehab & recovery sessions, etc, etc, half of which happen on the road. It was something cited by Hornacek when the Jazz wanted him to be a full-time coach when he first retired, but he declined - he wanted to make up for all the family time he'd missed during his career. So I have zero issues with guys who are fathers putting their kids first during off-season.

The gang is all there, at the Jazz game, laughing and ribbing the new guys a bit. Hood gets a steal, motors to the other end of the floor, finds an open man, then get the board and drains an 18 foot floater. The bench, and all the Jazz guys goes nuts. Faves on his feet, high fiving Gobert, then Neto. Yelling at Hood as he runs back upcourt.

Favors feels the vibration as a text hit his phone:

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Favors takes out his cell, thumbs the password.

Hayward: Hey buddy, that last play was awesome!
Favors: Yeah booooiiiiii!
Hayward: Let Hood know I'm expecting that out of him all season
Favors: Trust me, he knows that from all of us. Gonna be awesome this year.
Hayward: Wish I could be there. The camera keeps showing you guys together.
Favors: Nah, you got that wrong bro. You where you need to be. How's she doing? She a Rocky Mountain Review fan yet?
Hayward: Yeah I guess. She dumped a load on that last dunk from Cooley. I'm trying to get out of changing the diaper now. :)
Favors: Yeah. You gotta get your hands dirty sometime. LOL
Hayward: Yeah, don't I know it. Say hi to errbody for me.
Favors: You got it.

See, Hayward is part of the family.
