What's new

yet another shooting. in a Louisianna movie theather this time 2 dad

And how are you going to ban guns? They don't degrade with good care, and there's far too many out there to actually eliminate them.

And we have that pesky little amendment to deal with.

Yeah, it's pretty much impossible. Just avoid white men in large public gatherings.

It's not possible.

What I wish is that American would stop having love affairs with guns. Our culture is much to infatuated with their guns. Guns are too prevalent imo.

I have multiple co workers who have assault rifles that they love and always talk about and spend thousands of dollars on.

Just doesn't make much sense to me.
I think some people would give up their children before their guns. (A little hyperbole but I honestly know more about some of my co workers guns than I do about their kids)

How many of these shootings are done by people who are "infatuated" with guns like you're talking about. Yes we have accidental shooting, and those are terrible and could possibly be prevented by increased gun safety awareness (kinda like sex ed). But these shootings? Done by crazy people. Again, we've had guns for centuries yet haven't had mass shooting like this before...so what's the cause? Easy access to guns, which we've always had, or maybe easy access to pills (which is far more prevalent today than before).

And black men in Chicago and Detroit, right?

Uhh, are you going into the hood anytime soon where those crimes are committed?

You probably have more of a chance of being killed by a mass shooting in a public place than being shot in the hood, unless you regularly hang in the hood for some reason.

I was just making fun of your stupid jest.

I just think our culture loves guns too much. Just a simple opinion of mine.
I'm not saying that America's love for guns is the cause of these type of shooting though

Since Illinois started granting concealed carry permits this year, the number of robberies that have led to arrests in Chicago has declined 20 percent from last year, according to police department statistics. Reports of burglary and motor vehicle theft are down 20 percent and 26 percent, respectively. In the first quarter, the city’s homicide rate was at a 56-year low.

...A July study by the Crime Prevention Research Center found that 11.1 million Americans have permits to carry concealed weapons, a 147 percent increase from 4.5 million seven years ago. Meanwhile, homicide and other violent crime rates have dropped by 22 percent.

I see three possible options:

1. Do nothing, which to me shouldn't be an option

2. Encourage the responsible use and carry of firearms among the populace (training, classes, fees, permits, ads...)

3. Confiscate guns thru encouragement and force when necessary. Problem is that when the feds show up to take guns in places like Panguitch Utah, Coldwater Mississippi and Shamrock Texas they will have a fight on their hands. Worst posssible scenario as it will lead to enough people rebelling.

I own a gun and want to continue owning a gun.

That said other countries such as Australia have done well with eliminating guns in their country. I also think allowing weapons that are military grade like fully automatic high powered rifles seems like a bad idea.

As far as the second amendment goes:

First its an amendment which was added and can be removed. It was also not created to mean for individuals to own guns and any type of gun. The Supreme court did rule that this amendment could/would be applied to individuals, but not everyone has that right and they can make regulations about who and what type. Which has happened with certain types of weapons and felons not being allowed to have guns.

So, what I mean is that those are not hurdles we as a country cannot overcome if that is the direction we need/want to go.

My only solution to this mass shooting is that we need to fix the economy for middle and low class citizens. We also need to understand, identify and work with mental health in this country at a much higher level. Which might not be the only cure but I think would solve a lot of problems. Most criminals are either from poverty or have some type of mental health issue. Of course solving these two issues is a much harder done than said.

I think they would stop selling guns and encourage people to turn them in. They would ban people from having them but there is no way the Government would go and search every individuals home in america and search for guns by force, this would end poorly for everyone. But I guess that is an option.

We're allowed to own military grade fully automatic weapons? Better recheck where you read that at. We're allowed to own pre-86 automatic weapons, and the licensing to get one is very strict. It's not an issue at all.

Welp....better go buy more guns before prices go up.

Naw, in all seriousness, it's terrible that people are doing this. I mean, I just don't understand what would cause somebody to want to kill another person. I just don't get it.

it sure isnt because of the 2nd amendment and availability of guns

What I would like to hear is someone's solution for all of this. No political crap.

Just what would you do to stop these shootings?

i am of the opinion that you cant stop it.
we as humans need to have a better upbringing and education system that might stop it.

but there will always be dangers and bad men.it is part of live. so what can u do lock everyone up?
implant a chip in everyone brain that zaps u when u have "dark" thoughts?
divide the world up in small zones. everytime u enter leave a zone they check for weapons.

there honestly is no solution for evil to happen. we just gotta accept it live live to the fullest and hug our loved ones everytime we can

but is it ok for leaders to have guns(aka be protected by guns while thier in office and after.
because that is just monarchy/tyrany.

a free country is every single person falls under the same laws! obama can have armed bodyguards. so you should be able to have also

stats say otherwise

That is true now with the assault weapons ban but people are using the amendment as a reason we should not have that ban and undo it. Many people still own military grade weapons and would not give them up the same as a ban on any gun.

The Assault Weapons Ban expired in 2004. Assault weapons is, for the most part, a silly meaningless term.

The Firearm Owners Protection Act banned fully automatic weapons.

mass shootings happen only in gun free zone.
then you have different kinda murders which most requere motives. meaning it is less likely to happen to random people.
unless you pissed off lots of people. or people financly gain from your dead.
only other random motiveless murdervictim you can be is from a serialkiller, gang related(but then you have to be in gang related area) or gang iniation where they pick random (white) dudes and beat them to dead

well thats your perogative. lots of people use your logic.

Ostriches have rights too.
