Wondered what everyone thought of this.

COVER UP: A trade group called the National Center on Sexual Exploitation has been on a crusade to hide what it deems the “pornographic” covers of Cosmopolitan Magazine from the eyes of minors.

On Wednesday, the Washington, D.C.-based group claimed to have won its first battle by getting Rite Aid and Delhaize America — owner of Hannaford stores and Food Lion — to agree to place Cosmopolitan “behind blinders” in their stores “due to the magazine’s inappropriate content and covers.”

Rite Aid confirmed the news, adding: “We will continue to carry this publication. We are working to place future issues of this publication behind pocket shields.”

Here is a typical cover, from what I could see after a quick google images search:

Now for me right now this is a different story altogether, because in Germany you see boobs staring you right in the face in the magazine aisle, no blinder whatsoever, except if it is covering up a crotch. Otherwise, full on nudity right next to the "other" men's magazines....you know, car and gun magazines.

Is this a win for decency or a severe over-reach?

Decency and protection of minors. The two most popular tactics used by religious people to impose their irrational fear/hatred of sex on the rest of us.

It's amazing how if somebody disagrees with something, they hate or fear it.

Fwiw, Im pretty religious. I do not hate or fear sex, I'm actually quite fond of it. I can still hold to biblical views on sex and and have my previous sentences be true. Now pornography creates a lot of issues, especially for males.

Anyways, I think this is kinda stupid. Cosmopolitan is a joke, and let's be honest, Sarah Jessica Parker isn't going to sell sex very well. No need for it to be covered.

Safety and protection of our kids. Just two poplar tactics used by fundamental leftists to impose their irrational fear/hatred of guns on the rest of us.

Look! I can play this game too!!

Not a leftist, and I don't care about gun control.

As for your previous statement, I understand the excuses the religious come up with to justify an aversion they were brought up with. Until very recently, they used threats of hell and damnation to discourage people from having sex (still the most popular tactic in much of the world). As society became more and more secular, and they were forced to come up with more secular excuses, it became about the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancy, and most recently, porn addiction.

The exact same pattern was used to oppose homosexuality. First honest religious sentiment, then forced and half-assed secular excuses. But really, nobody is fooled. When I lived in Virginia, some Christian group went ape **** because a house had a replica of the statue of David on their lawn. My goodness. It's just a penis. I'm sure your kids will survive the trauma of seeing a human body. Given the fuss they make over ANYTHING related to sex, it's really impossible to be convinced that is based on anything but deep opposition to the act itself.

However, I do appreciate the fact that modernization has liberalized sexual attitudes even among Christians. I bet most no longer consider oral sex between married people an abomination unto God! Which they very much used to.

Wasn't there a big to do in Utah about this a few years ago? Covering up magazines in the isles? For the most part they are covered up now. Doesn't bother me, don't need my little kids seeing that.

Can you imagine how drama free life would be if people didn't take offense to EVERYTHING?! Seriously.

My fear of guns is perfectly rational.

If you see a gun sitting on a table you run the other way screaming?

Personally, I would run from someone wielding a gun. Maybe it is gunmen you are afraid of instead.

Don't come to Europe. We have been taking lots of pictures and video and sharing it with our family on a private youtube channel. I had to really edit some of the footage because we were in a little convenience store kind of thing in the train station and behind my kids were mags with pics of big boobs. Had to blur those out, and some scenes just cut completely. It was kind of funny and I almost wish I had just left it in to see the response from my family.

I hope this is directed at people taking offense with sexual display. Otherwise, this must be the most ironic post of all time.

Could some of the desire for men to become women be caused by a culture of penis shaming? Is the desire for women to become men linked to shaming everything that has to do with female sexuality? Is the uber conservative religious community inadvertently pushing society in the direction which they fear so much?

While this seems to be your answer to everything, I don't recall you ever making a fuss over anything. So you at least live by what you preach. :)
I guess I make a fuss over legalization kinda.
And Alec Burks

But really, not too much bothers me in life. It's a blessing and a curse because I'm not passionate about any issues so it makes me feel apathetic.

I'm passionate about the jazz, camping/fishing/outdoors and that's about it really.

Sounds to me like you have your head in the right places, guy.
