Typical conversation with a Utah driver
driver: "The other day I was on the freeway in the fast lane and..."
me interrupting: "The what lane?"
driver: "The fast lane. You know the lane that you drive fast in."
me: "Do you mean the passing lane? The lane you should vacate unless you are passing someone."
After about 10 mins I tend to wear them down to the point that they adopt the term "passing lane".
The worst part is, legally, I'm fairly sure that they are right and I am wrong. I don't think there is a law on the books here mandating for drivers to move over to the right. Unless it is posted or there is an emergency vehicle you can drive your minivan in whatever lane you please.
There is a law in Utah that if someone is attempting to pass you you must move to the right. It even goes so far as to say that it does not matter what speed you are traveling at, if someone is attempting to pass you must move to the right.
If that's the case, the problem with the law seems to be "if someone is attempting to pass". In my view you should be driving as far to the right as traffic will allow. If there is room in the lane to the right of you than you should drive in that lane. A cop should pull you over for driving in the far left lane when lanes to the right have room, regardless of whether someone is riding your ***.
Oh, the joys of driving in Germany! Don't want to diss Utah too much... but my biggest complaint whenever I'm back in the Beehive state is driving on the 15... MOVE OVER!!!

This thread has been hi-jacked.
Let's keep it simple, please. And let folks use all the lanes available. Keep some distance from other cars. It's not too hard to glance at the rearview once in a while and see if you need to move over for someone.
what, you think Donald Trump can even own a JazzFanz thread?
This thread has been hi-jacked.
No... I read the original post... it said something about 'dumb ***' and 'leading'... no?
...I will get out of the way before they have to slow down if I can.
Aye, there's the rub! Even if you're one who uses your rear-view mirror frequently [doubt it]... with the speed that some travel, you won't be fast enough.
Ok, back on topic, before we get another 'hi-jacked' warning... I even went back and read most of this thread [slow day], even the crazy votes for Bloomberg (n).
I don't think this is about Trump, himself... but about being very fed up with 'politics as usual'... (even though the last 6+ years have been unusual: no budgets, significant imbalance/no 'checks', unbalanced leverage by the press - as opposed to a counterweight, and much more...)
But, now it's not about Dems or GOP... it's about politicians. Significant grass roots movements (Tea Party) have had little to no real impact. Republicans vote for just as much spending as Dems, no one wants to address actual issues, cuz they won't get reelected. People have had it on both sides.
GOP has 20+ candidates... 16 plain Janes (including Christi), one doctor, one woman exec, one smart guy who won't kowtow (so he gets kicked by Dem & GOP), a semi-Libertarian, and Trump. Not hard to see that 1/4 to 1/3 have had it, enough to stick it to the 'Man' with a different card.
We'll see what happens on Thursday... it's going to be all about Trump. 50/50 that he sticks his foot in his mouth... but I don't think that will matter either. Either people are going to like his brash style, or he may be seen as being too extreme. But even there, I may be wrong... I'm not sure, given the current environment, that he can be too extreme... if 1/3 of 1/2 of the population stays fed up...???
Many in Washington are predicting that he will implode, fade, whatever... and won't be around in 3 months. Under a past 'normal' political cycle... maybe. But I think this time it will be different.
One last comment, if I need to be more clear... Trump may be a bit of a 'joke'... but a very little one, compared to the current state of politics in the good ole US of A.
2. Trump losses steam and bolts to be a 3rd party candidate as he has hinted at already. He siphons off voters from the republican candidate and the Dems win in a landslide.
Color me naive, but I don't think option 2 will happen... Think he's jockeying for position, and it may not be to 'win'. I think he will continue to torch the 'old guard' McCain/Graham, and those he doesn't like... but maybe play a kingmaker in the end. He won't go 3rd Party
I really feel no regret if I inconvenience their speeding a little. I check my mirrors frequently and if they are moving that fast then they deserve a little break check. Love it or hate it American freeways are not the autobahn.
